Tranmere vs Liverpool Predictions

While the likes of Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are still dreaming of World Cup glory in Russia, their Liverpool teammates have already kicked off their pre-season and will be targeting another victory here as they make the short trip to Birkenhead to take on neighbours Tranmere Rovers, who are gearing up for their long awaited return to the Football League.

It promises to be a decent test for Liverpool but one they should pass without too much trouble. They kicked off their pre-season campaign with a convincing 7-0 rout of Chester and although some senior players are still absent, they have plenty of quality available and a number of players with points to prove, so motivation should not be a factor here.

New signings Naby Keita and Fabinho both featured in the Chester match and promise to be big players for Liverpool this season. They will be hungry to secure a starting role when the Premier League campaign kicks off in just a few weeks time. The duo offer Liverpool a bit more of a physical presence but also have quality on the ball and this is a good opportunity for them to showcase their talents.

Alongside them are a host of players who may quite literally be playing for their futures at the club so again there are a number of men who will be eager to impress. Klopp may have made his mind up on one or two but with potential buyers lurking and an early end to the transfer window, it’s a key time for the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings, who both netted at Chester.

Liverpool don’t have that many players left at the World Cup compared to Tottenham for example who could have a real struggle on their hands to get players rested and back again in time for the Premier League season. It will be a strong team they select here and they should be able to stamp their authority on the game against a Tranmere side that is building for a crack at League Two football.

Rovers finished 2nd in the National League last term before advancing through the play-offs. They made a good start to pre-season too by winning 4-0 at Dunfermline but realistically this is going to be a far tougher challenge against a side that was playing in a Champions League Final a little over a month ago.

The visitors should be too strong and there looks to be some value in backing Liverpool HT/Liverpool FT, particularly given the emphatic manner in which they started their pre-season and the number of players that will be hungry to impress.
