Twente vs FC Oss Predictions

Promotion favourites FC Twente have made a strong start to life in Eerste Divisie in the opening weeks of the season, and the Enschede outfit will be confident about maintaining their form when they host TOP Oss at De Grolsch Veste this coming Saturday.

Tom Boere’s third goal of the campaign spearheaded a fine 3-1 home success for FC Twente against Roda JC on match day three, as Marino Pusic’s side dispatched another main promotion rival following their defeat of Sparta Rotterdam on the opening day.

And whilst FC Twente’s 2-2 draw at Helmond Sport a fortnight ago was a definite blip, supporters will be delighted with their seven point haul based on their opposition to date.

It means that Saturday’s hosts sit 3rd in the early standings heading into match day four, two points behind Go Ahead Eagles who’ve surprised many with their 100% start.

Exact league position isn’t really important to FC Twente at this stage, but momentum certainly is. Pusic’s side will want to string a long unbeaten run together and will view this weekend’s clash with TOP Oss as a must three points to consolidate their victories over Sparta and Roda.

TOP Oss shouldn’t be taken lightly though as demonstrated by their convincing wins against MVV (0-2) and Jong PSV (4-1) in the opening two weeks of the season – results driven by the flourishing Huseyin Dogan who netted a brace in both fixtures.

However, Klaas Wels’ side were unable to maintain their streak at home to Cambuur last weekend as a devastating second half hat-trick from Karim Rossi sealed a 1-3 success for the visitors.

It leaves TOP 5th in the table ahead of their first ever trip to De Grolsch Veste – and this will indeed be the inaugural meeting between the teams in competitive action.

Nothing to go on then here in terms of a head to head record but there’s still plenty to suggest that FC Twente should be too good.

Their early season form has a strong feel to it, with victims Sparta and Roda winning their other two matches to date, and the quality of their squad just seems to be on a different level compared to the majority of other Eerste Divisie teams.

Tim Holscher and Wout Brahma look great finds in midfield after joining from Esbjerg and Central Coast Mariners respectively, whilst the aforementioned Tom Boere is a deadly weapon up front at this level.

Oss know that more than most – Boere secured his move to FC Twente in 2017 on the back of a 33 goal campaign with Saturday’s visitors, and the 25 year-old will be seeking to hurt his former suitors this weekend.

Oss have clearly indicated that they can improve this term on the 15th place they’ve achieved in the past two seasons, but it’s still worth remembering ahead of this encounter that they’ve only won four of their last 20 Eerste Divisie games on the road.

Getting anything at De Grolsch Veste in front of a packed partisan crowd simply looks a step too far for TOP, and we think FC Twente can oblige cosily here by covering a one goal handicap.

Six of Oss’ ten away losses in 2017/18 were by more than one goal, and FC Twente have enough tools to cause similar damage. A 3-1 triumph for the hosts looks realistic, so we’re playing with small stakes in the correct score market too.
