Valencia vs Deportivo La Coruna Predictions

There are only 3 points separating these sides in the table after Depor’s recent good run of form and both should beat the drop with a bit of breathing space. Valencia are strong favourites to win the game but Depor have shown enough under Pepe Mel to suggest they’ll at least score and perhaps even get a result.

Valencia are still struggling to keep the goals out. They’ve conceded 1.82 goals per game this season in La Liga, which is the worst defensive record outside of the bottom three. That figure isn’t much better at the Mestalla where they’ve let in 1.77 goals per game and have kept a clean sheet in just 15% of their matches. With first-choice centre-back Eliaquim Mangala suspended, they are further weakened at the back and it seems highly likely that the visitors will get chances to score in this match.

Depor have taken 8 points from their 5 games under Mel so far, which is an excellent return when you consider that, that includes games against Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Celta Vigo. Even before Mel took charge, they’d been scoring goals if not getting many positive results on their travels. The Galicians have only failed to score in 1 of their last 8 away games in all competitions, although a record of just 1 win in 16 away games this term clearly demonstrates they’ve also been struggling to keep the goals out.

They’ll have to contend with Valencia forward Munir in this match. The former Barcelona man is in good form with goals in his last two matches and his pace should cause problems for a sometimes sluggish Depor defence. Given that, backing Munir to score anytime at 11/8 looks a good bet.

Overall the stats strongly suggest we’ll see goals at both ends. Both teams have scored in 71% of Valencia matches and 61% of Deportivo matches in La Liga this term. 9 of Depor’s last 12 away games have seen both teams score and this should be relatively open too so backing Both Teams to Score at 4/5 could be worth a punt.
