Valladolid vs Mallorca Predictions

Valladolid travelled to Camp Nou in midweek with hopes of snatching something after a solid start to the campaign, however Sergio’s side were blown away 5-1 after conceding just 90 seconds into the contest.

Their resilience will be tested properly for the first time this season when they entertain Mallorca on Matchday 12, but this looks the perfect game for Pucela to bounce back with the visitors pointless from four outings on the road this term.

Considering that Valladolid conceded just nine goals in their opening ten La Liga matches this season, boss Sergio will have been hugely disappointed to see his side ship five goals on Tuesday evening, although credit has to go Barca who were at their scintillating best.

It was the third successive La Liga game in which the champions notched victory by at least a three goal margin, and a reminder that the Catalans are a cut above every other team in the Spanish top flight when on form.

So it’s likely that Valladolid will take the beating on the chin as opposed to crumbling over the next few weeks, and on all form prior to Tuesday night, Pucela look great value here at a shade of odds-against to see off newly promoted Mallorca who have lost four from four on their travels.

Whilst Valladolid have won just one of their four matches at Jose Zorrilla this term (2-0 vs Eibar last time out) they remain unbeaten in front of their own supporters and earned draws against 3rd placed Granada (1-1) and 4th placed Atletico Madrid (0-0).

A repeat of those performances should put them on course for their fourth win of the season this Sunday morning, and Valladolid could move up from 13th to end the weekend in the top half of the table, depending on how the other fixtures play out. The middle ground in La Liga is quite congested at present, typified by the fact Pucela are only three points behind 7th placed Villarreal.

Mallorca have been toiling badly on the road as their results suggest and are failing to reach anywhere near the standards they have set out at Son Moix.

Los Bermellones knocked over Real Madrid 1-0 in Palma a fortnight ago to demonstrate what a tough outfit they are on home soil, but a 1-0 defeat at bottom club Leganes next time out epitomised the problem for Vicente Moreno’s men, who have conceded nine goals in their four away matches, failing to score themselves in three.

A 2-2 draw at home to fellow promoted side Osasuna on Thursday evening leaves Mallorca 17th heading into this Sunday’s fixture, but they could be sucked into the relegation zone if they lose here and 18th placed Celta Vigo manage to overcome Getafe at Balaidos.

We don’t believe that Valladolid would be odds-against for this game had they not suffered their heavy defeat to Barca in midweek, and they look a good thing to bounce straight back – especially with the added advantage of an extra two day’s rest.

With Mallorca losing three of their four away so far by a two goal margin and scoring just twice, we’re also going for a 2-0 correct score in favour of the hosts.
