Vancouver Whitecaps vs Philadelphia Union Predictions

Vancouver Whitecaps are going to have to be at their best to pick up any points from this weekend’s match at home to high flying Philadelphia Union. The visitors arrive on the back of four wins from their last five matches, have a strong defensive record, and have been scoring on a regular basis. However, Vancouver Whitecaps won their last home game against LAFC, while Philadelphia Union were defeated in their last game on the road against LA Galaxy.

Vancouver Whitecaps can have no real complaints about their late defeat away at Orlando City last weekend, as their hosts had 58% of the overall possession, more corners, and created more goal scoring opportunities than the Canadians; but it wasn’t until the eighty-eighth minute that Nani scored the games only goal to seal all three points for Orlando City. Philadelphia Union cruised to a 3-0 win at home to Montreal Impact last time out, with goals from Burke and Jamiro seeing the hosts lead at the halftime interval. Bedoya added the third goal shortly before the hour mark, and despite having defender Wagner sent-off late on Philadelphia Union held on to their clean sheet.

The form of both of these teams during the early stages of the new MLS season, along with the result of their last meeting, suggests that Philadelphia Union are best placed to win this game and possibly keep a clean sheet in the process. When these two sides last met in June 2018 Philadelphia Union ran out 4-0 winners, and three of the last six meetings between the pair have ended in a win to nil. Vancouver Whitecaps have lost three of their last six matches, while Philadelphia Union have won four of their last five in the MLS. The hosts have failed to score in three of their last five matches, and the visitors arrive having kept three clean sheets in their last five attempts. Philadelphia Union are certainly the form side of the two and have an excellent defensive record in the MLS so far this season, while Vancouver Whitecaps have struggled to score enough goals and that could be their undoing on Saturday.

The hosts don’t have any players with more than one goal to their name in the MLS after eight matches, while Accam leads the way in front of goal for Philadelphia with three. We’re confident that Philadelphia Union will win on Saturday, and have predicted a final scoreline of 3-0. The visitors beat Vancouver Whitecaps 4-0 the last time the pair met, and so far this season Philadelphia Union have outperformed Saturday’s hosts in all departments.
