Vasco Da Gama vs Gremio Predictions

Sunday’s Brazilian Serie A action sees Vasco da Gama playing host to Gremio. The visitors arrive as favourites to win the match and will be looking to do exactly that.

Vasco played fairly well in their midweek clash with Fluminense but came away disappointed after only managing to secure a 1-1 draw. The situation at the club certainly looks a lot calmer than it was earlier in the season, which should help matters on the pitch but there’s no doubting they face a huge challenge with Gremio in town.

Vasco should be able to give Gremio a competitive enough match but their squad clearly doesn’t possess the same quality as the visitor’s do and thus they look set for a tough evening. Almirante currently sit in mid-table, some 7 points behind Gremio and whilst a win here could move them into the top half, that doesn’t look like much of a possibility. That’s because Gremio take to the pitch having lost just 1 of their last 14 outings across all competitions.

Tricolor came into the season with hopes of challenging for the title and will certainly do that if they can keep up their performance levels, currently standing 4th, just 4 points behind leaders Flamengo.

Renato Gaucho’s troops picked up an impressive 2-0 win over fellow high flyers Atletico Mineiro in mid-week, fuelled by a typically excellent defensive effort. Following said result, Gremio have now kept 8 clean sheets in their last 9 outings and have by far and away the division’s strongest defence, having conceded just 5 times in 13 matches so far, on the way to collecting 23 points.

Ultimately, it’s hard to look past a Gremio win and we’re more than happy to have a play on exactly that at more than reasonable odds. Vasco are not a poor team by any means but they simply do not have the quality and resolve that the visitors do and it’s not hard to envisage them being beaten.

Gremio are unbeaten in 5 away matches, winning 3 times and having kept clean sheets in their last 4 games on enemy territory, they look to have established an excellent formula for playing on the road.

It’s likely to be a tight game throughout, given the manner in which Gremio play but they should be able to find a winning goal against a Vasco team that has conceded in 11 of its last 13 home games, with a 1-0 away victory on the cards.
