Vasco Da Gama vs Ldu Quito Predictions

Thursday’s Copa Sudamericana second round, second leg action features a clash between Brazilians Vasco and Ecuadorians LDU Quito. The visitors will be looking to hold onto the 3-1 lead they established in the first leg.

Vasco were always going to be up against it in their trip to Quito for the first leg due to the high altitude present there and so it proved, as they struggled to match their opponent’s intensity and fell to a 3-1 defeat that now leaves them on the brink of another continental exit, having already crashed out of the Copa Libertadores this year.

Vasco are not enjoying a particularly good season and arrive for Thursday’s match in terrible form, having recorded three defeats in a row across all competitions, conceding an average of 3 goals a game in the process. Fans are beginning to become frustrated with the team once again and failure to overturn the deficit they’re up against could see a return to the ugly scenes seen earlier in the year when the team was misfiring.

Meanwhile, LDU are enjoying an excellent year that would only get all the more sweeter were they to finish the job off in Brazil. The visitors have already seen off Guabira in Sudamericana action to reach this point, whilst they’ve also put in some excellent domestic showings that saw them win the opening phase of Ecuadorian action.

Arriving unbeaten in 3 games, two of which wins and having lost just 2 of their last 12 games overall, confidence is clearly running very high in the visiting camp. Pablo Repetto’s troops have also avoided defeat in 5 of their last 6 away games, drawing the last 3 and if they can show that kind of resolve on Thursday then they’ll have more than enough to get themselves over the line.

Ultimately, it’d take a brave man to back Vasco at current prices and we see good value in backing LDU to avoid defeat. Whilst it’s true that Brazilian football is very clearly a level above Ecuadorian, the hosts are in miserable form and the visitors bring momentum with them.

It won’t be easy by any means, by LDU have the ability to avoid defeat. Vasco have not won any of their last 4 continental home matches and with morale low in their squad right now, an LDU side that is in good shape should be able to get the result they need, with a 1-1 draw on the cards. Keeping a clean sheet is vital if Vasco are to have any hope of coming back and taking into account the weak defensive efforts they’ve been putting in lately, one doesn’t look at all likely.
