Yellow Submarine should sink winless Levante

Villarreal were just hitting form as they headed into the winter break, winning each of their last three La Liga games by a 2+ goal margin. Those games had a combined scoreline of 10-3 in favour of Villarreal, so they will be looking to continue that prolific form in 2022.

Unai Emery knows this opposition well, he formerly managed Levante’s bitter city rivals Valencia and while his side on the day failed to keep a clean sheet in each of the last eight encounters, he only lost two of those games (W4, D2).

Lacklustre Levante are heading straight down

This season is already a write off as far as even the most optimistic of Levante fans are concerned. They are yet to win after 18 rounds and are only the second side to ever go winless in that many games to begin a season after Sporting Gijon in 1997/98, who eventually finished bottom.

That winless run actually spans back across 26 La Liga games since their last victory and it is hard to see them stopping the rot away to the Europa League champions, a side they have not beaten in an away La Liga game in over ten years.

Given the absolute gulf in class between these sides, I predict a handicap-busting victory for Villarreal. I will give Levante a goal in a 3-1 defeat as they averaged 2.0 scored goals per away game across their last four, despite losing each time.
