Walsall vs Chesterfield Predictions

Walsall continued to kick-on at the weekend when beating an in-form Oldham side 2-0 in front of a home crowd, although they were helped considerably by the visitors’ ill-discipline (two red cards). Either way the hosts have been in decent form of late, especially at home, and have an excellent opportunity to collect another three points against a Chesterfield side who may already be relegated.

At odds of 5/6, ‘Walsall to Score Over 1.5 Goals’ is the bet that really stands out here. John Whitney’s side have hit a rich vein of scoring form in front of their own fans and, despite Chesterfield recent upturn in form, could easily continue to find the net here.

At Bescot Stadium, Walsall have had little trouble in scoring goals this season, finding the net on 30 occasions. In addition, Whitney’s men have scored at least twice in nine of their 17 matches in front of a home crowd. Considering Chesterfield have one of the less respectable away records – conceded 30 goals on the road – it’s not hard to imagine the hosts enjoying plenty of attacking-success here.

Chesterfield may have won last time out, but beating Swindon – a team who’re also embroiled in the relegation battle – isn’t exactly the hardest thing to do and they were thumped 4-0 by Oxford the time before that. With Walsall in excellent form on their own patch and Chesterfield failing to impress whenever they’ve come up against a decent side, you’d have to fear for the visitors a bit here.

Whitney has in his ranks two useful forward in Simeon Jackson and Bakayoko, while in tricky Turkish midfielder Erhun Oztumer – a player who’s found the net no less than 14 times this season – Walsall have a player who can create as well as pretty much anyone in this division.

All things considered, these two are heading in different directions and it would appear as though Walsall have been handed a good opportunity to continue scoring goals on their own patch.
