Watford vs Burton Albion Predictions

Watford’s collapse in the season continued on Tuesday when they put in an abject performance to lose 2-0 away to Stoke, making it five games without a win and six defeats from their last eight outings in all competitions.

This has seen them begin a slide down the Premier League table, and they now occupy 14th position having picked up just 22 points from their 20 league games this season. The threat of relegation will definitely be in the back of their minds, but that won’t take any focus off a very important FA Cup fixture.

Fortunately for them they are facing a side in equally poor form. Burton Albion were always expected to struggle in the Championship this season, and to be fair they have put up a good fight. However, their 1-0 loss at home to Preston North End on Monday made it five defeats from their last six games in the league and leaves them one position and one point above the relegation zone.

The visitors have only won two of their last 11 in all competitions, and both of those victories came against bottom of the table Rotherham. They won’t feel too confident facing Premier League opposition here.

Away from home that victory against Rotherham just before the end of 2016 was their first win of the season, with seven defeats and five draws making up the other 12 results they have collected on their travels. Watford, on the other hand, have managed to win four of their last eight at Vicarage Road and have only lost twice in this period.

I quite like the look of Troy Deeney for our anytime goalscorer predictions here. The English striker has looked low on confidence recently and seemed to have some mental block about getting his 100th Watford goal. He finally grabbed that goal against Crystal Palace on Boxing Day though, so backing him to add to his five goals this season at 6/5 looks a good option.

Overall I do think Watford will get the win here. They have far too much quality for Burton Albion, and the bookies seem to agree. There is value in backing goals though – Watford have seen eight of their 11 home games this season end with at least three goals, whilst Burton have in seven of their 13 on the road, including four of their last five. This makes odds of 4/5 for Over 2.5 Goals look very good value, and I’m backing that alongside a 2-1 correct score predictions at 7/1.
