      Wolfsburg vs Hannover 96 Predictions

Only goal difference separates the Wolves from a Europa League qualifying finish going into the final seven games of the season, and a win over Northern neighbours Hannover on Saturday would strengthen their claim for a top-six finish. Coach Bruno Labbadia, who has now confirmed he will be departing the club at the end of the season, would no doubt like to leave having achieved that much, and their last home outing – a 5-2 thrashing of Fortuna Dusseldorf – should mean the fans at the Volkswagen Arena remain behind him.

Hannover’s recent managerial change hasn’t given them much more luck. They’ve had poor weather conditions (heavy snow) deny them a goal in a game against Leverkusen a few weeks back – an eventual 3-2 defeat that would have saved a point or seen them possibly go on to win the game if you consider momentum a thing – and coach Thomas Doll has as many as seven key players in the treatment room unavailable going into the weekend. Things look very bleak ahead of a game they desperately need to win.

It’s no surprise, therefore, that Wolfsburg are big favourites here, but we feel the value for this game is in goals. Wolfsburg’s league matches so far in 2019 have seen a massive 36 goals – an average of 3.6 per game – and Hannover aren’t too far behind either, with their matches seeing a total of 34 goals, an average of 3.4 per game. Notably, both teams have scored in 63% of Wolfsburg’s home and a massive 85% of Hannover’s away matches this season too, so that’s the bet we’re going for here.

Another away trip is not good news for Hannover, particularly given their recent track record against Wolfsburg. The Wolves have lost just one of the last eight matches against their North German neighbours (W4 D3 L1) and Hannover’s away record doesn’t show any reason to support why this trend might change on Saturday. Doll’s side haven’t kept a clean sheet in 29 consecutive Bundesliga away matches and, interestingly, haven’t won any away game this season (D4 L9). Going off that, we can only see the hosts getting a result here. Our prediction: 3-1 Wolfsburg.
