Yeovil Town vs Carlisle Predictions

Before we can pack up our things and the players can head off around the world for their summer holidays, there is still one final round of fixtures left to play in League Two and with a few issues left to be decided, it promises to be an entertaining afternoon of football. After having their demotion to the National League confirmed last weekend, Yeovil Town welcome a Carlisle United side who are still pushing for a spot in the top seven to Huish Park.

The final nail in the coffin for Yeovil Town’s stay in the Football League came in last weekends clash with Northampton Town and the story of the match mirrored much of what has happened over the season as they started well and rushed into a lead before imploding and throwing it all away. Although the hosts started the campaign well, since the turn of the year their form has been simply awful and, as a result, they have slid down the table until they finally hit rock bottom.

Carlisle United go into this match knowing that only three points will keep them in the running for a shot at the end of season play-offs, and even then it may not be enough. There are three sides ahead of Carlisle in the running for the last of the play-off spots, and even though goal difference may play a factor, a positive result for the current holders of seventh position, Newport County, will be enough to ensure Carlisle’s season ends at the regular end date.

Now that relegation is confirmed, it will be interesting to see if Yeovil can turn their form on its head and show the type of form they displayed earlier in the campaign. However, given that have been so poor since the turn of the year and the fact that they have a pretty awful record in the head to head between these two sides, it seems unlikely they will be able to earn a win. When you also consider the importance of three points for the Cumbrians, then we think backing an away win is the only way to earn a decent return on this fixture.
