Yeovil Town vs Grimsby Town Predictions

Yeovil sit precariously above the relegation zones in 21st position just three points above 23rd placed Macclesfield and their recent form is a cause for concern having lost their previous three league fixtures all without scoring a single goal.

Grimsby Town on the other hand have been a real mixed bag, since their 2-1 away loss at Cheltenham Town they won four league games on the bounce and followed that with four losses on the bounce. They have turned that bad run back into the green with back to back wins against MK Dons and Newport County respectively.

Normally in a relegation battle teams rely on their home form and their home fans to pull them through. This can’t be said for Yeovil Town however as they sit rock bottom of the home table having picked up just 13 points on home soil this season. This has come from two wins, seven draws and six draws. They are also the worst scorers at home too, having found the net on just 13 occasions in 15 games.

Grimsby have been fairly poor on the road this season, picking up 14 points from their 15 league away games. This has come from four wins, two draws and nine defeats. The Mariners have one of the worst away scoring records having found the net just 11 times on their travels this season. Defensively they have been a little better, conceding just 21 goals ranking them 12th on that particular statistic.

This is a game that seems destined to be a low scoring affair, Yeovil rank 23rd for average goals per game with them seeing on average 2.20 goals per game this season. Grimsby are no better either, ranking 22nd and averaging 2.29 goals per game at home. With this being a relegation scrap for the home side we can see them trying to keep it fairly tight.

Neither side score goals and that’s plain to see, Yeovil net 0.87 goals per game at home whilst Grimsby score 0.73 goals per game away from home. You’d expect teams like that to concede by the bucket load but they don’t, conceding 1.47 and 1.4 per game respectively. For that reason we are backing Under 2.5 goals here. On the correct score note, Grimsby have picked up back to back wins and the last time they did that they went on to win four on the bounce. They are the big outsiders here against a side who have won two home games all season. We are backing Grimsby to win this one 1-0.
