Yeovil Town vs Morecambe Predictions

Prior to last Saturday’s fixture against Cambridge, strugglers Yeovil were heading in the wrong direction, though they managed to secure three points in front of a home crowd for the first time in over a month. With that win under their belts, the Glovers will be hoping to move further than three points clear of the drop-zone.

After two heavy defeats, Yeovil needed to win last time out and they can be pleased not only with the result  but with their overall efforts. While they did continue to look insecure at the back, the Glovers created more than their opponents, while they managed to hold firm when push came to shove, which is something that they’ve failed to do all too often.

In fact, while they’ve hardly excelled in front of their own fans this season, Yeovil have delivered a couple of encouraging performances at Huish Park in recent times. Prior to their win over Cambridge, they lost at home to Grimsby, though their efforts on that occasion weren’t as bad as the result, as they created more than they gave away in terms of chances. They also deservedly beat Notts County at this venue at month ago, so beating a bottom-six Morecambe side is unlikely to be beyond them.

While Yeovil have delivered a few decent efforts at home of late, Morecambe haven’t exactly performed well on the road. They have won each of their last two away matches, though it would be wrong to say that they weren’t lucky against Oldham last time out, while they certainly weren’t value for their win away against Port Vale prior to that. On that occasion, Morecambe created just 0.68 expected goals for, while they conceded 2.15.

Prior to those two wins, both of which were fortunate, the Shrimps were without an away-day victory in six. Furthermore, their underlying numbers on the road have been poor. Morecambe are averaging just 0.89 expected goals for, which tells us that they struggle to create scoring opportunities, while they’ve surrendered an average of 1.67 at the other end. Yeovil boast a poor average of 0.95 expected goals for at home, but they’ve seemingly given less away, as an average of 1.17 expected-goals against suggests.

As the league table suggests, both Yeovil and Morecambe have struggled this season, though at the prices, there’s only one team that makes appeal ahead of this match. Yeovil have performed well against teams near them in the table at home of late. They beat both Cambridge and Notts County at this venue and played well in doing so. In contrast, Morecambe, despite picking up results, have performed poorly on their travels. Add in the fact that the Shrimps have given more away on their travels than the Glovers have at home and it’s easy to get behind a home win.
