Yeovil Town vs Oldham Predictions

Yeovil Town have enjoyed a good start to the season, defying many of the pundits who said they were going to struggle this year.

Although they lost 1-0 to Bury on the opening day, they did play the last half an hour with 9 men and only conceded an injury time goal. They then drew 2-2 at home to Mansfield, a respectable result given Mansfield’s status promotion candidacy, however, after being ahead twice, they will have wanted to have won that match.

Their last two matches have seen a noticeable step in standards from those two games. They were excellent against Championship Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup, despite losing 1-0 and will have been proud of their performance against a superior side.

However, it was against Notts County where they gained their result of the season so far. Yeovil beat them 4-0 away, with striker Alex Fisher scoring a hat-trick to get Yeovil their first win of the season. They dominated that match and are in sparkling form at the moment.

Oldham were another team expected to struggle this season but have done okay so far this year, competing  more in every game.

They lost 2-1 at home to MK Dons in their first match which, although losing at home is never great, wasn’t the worst result, considering the perceived gulf in quality between these two teams. An away 1-1 draw against Forest Green Rovers in the following game was again not a bad result, although questions about Oldham’s ability to potentially get promoted was called into question.

In the Carabao Cup during midweek, the club lost 2-0 at home to Derby, however they picked up their first win of the season on Saturday against Macclesfield at home. They won 3-1 on the day and with new signings Sam Surridge and Ishmael Miller getting their first goals for the club, it looks like they have potent options in attack.

In addition, goalkeeper Daniel Iversen has been on great form since signing on loan from Leicester and could get better as the season progresses. It remains to be seen whether this team with an inexperienced squad and manager can continue to get results but it hasn’t been the worst start for the team.

Unfortunately for Oldham, we think they won’t get anything from this match, as we predict a Yeovil win. After that result against Notts County and the ones before it, they are too good a form to bet against. Whilst Oldham have come into it a bit, this could be a step too far. A 2-0 correct score-line reflects what could be a comprehensive win.
