Yeovil Town vs Swindon Predictions

Yeovil Town have been one of the strongest sides in the division this year, after a summer where many predicted they would struggle. Under manager Darren Way, they have played some beautiful football at times and fully deserve to occupy a play-off spot after eight matches.

Indeed, the fantastic style of play Way has instilled was seen in their most recent match against Newport County. They beat them 6-0 away from home in one of the results of the season. The team blew away an opposition who were in the automatic promotion places before the game, with Yeovil’s attacking players showing exquisite movement, pace and quality to score three goals a half.  It is not the first time Yeovil have done that this season, thrashing Notts County 4-0 away from home earlier in the season with a similar performance to the one against Newport.

In addition to attacking play, Yeovil have also show defensive steel throughout the campaign so far, as the side have kept clean sheets in a row across all competitions. The only losses suffered were against Championship side Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup, albeit by a single goal, whilst were defeated by Bury on opening day after two of their players had been sent off.

If they can continue the form they showed against Newport, then promotion from this division is a realistic target for Darren Way’s side.

Their opponents for this match, West County rivals Swindon, were more fancied than Yeovil to succeed this year but have largely disappointed in an inconsistent start to the season.

The side are yet to win back-to-back matches in the league and have struggled to win matches at times. They did get wins against both promoted sides, Tranmere and Macclesfield, through the skin of their teeth. In the Macclesfield match on opening weekend, they were awarded two stoppage time penalties to win the game 3-2, whilst against Tranmere were losing 2-0 at home until the away side had a man sent off. Swindon duly went on to win the match 3-2. Thus, for half the points Swindon have got, the team have not looked convincing at all, although showed good character at least to get three points from both games.

Indeed, even their other win against strugglers Morecambe was not straightforward, as they had a man sent off in the first half and had to hold on for the win. Furthermore, Swindon also drew 1-1 against Forest Green Rovers and MK Dons, whilst drew away at Crawley, which can also be seen as points gained, given their opponent’s were either in good form or strong at home.

However, the side have looked weak in other matches, such as their 4-1 loss to Lincoln City in the second game of the season, which suggested that they were not at the same level of their potential promotion rivals. Their most recent match at home to Bury was another example, as they went 2-1 down in a disappointing performance in which they deserved to lose. Under manager Phil Brown, the squad definitely has the talent and spirit to get into the promotion places, they just need to find some consistency.

Unfortunately, we don’t think they will be able to find it against a rampant Yeovil side, who are the more likely to come out on top in what should be an entertaining derby. However, Swindon have also shown their quality and should able to get at least a goal back. Thus, a Yeovil Town to Win and BTTS with a 3-1 correct score-line reflects the status of the home side as the in-form team, whilst Swindon, although spirited, may not be able to cope with their attacking play.
