      Young Boys vs Thun Predictions

Even without their star striker Hoarau, Young Boys beat Basel 3-1 away from home last weekend and on Saturday play host to an FC Thun side that took advantage of Basel’s defeat to move into second place with a victory over St. Gallen. Eighteen points still separate the two clubs ahead of Saturday’s clash in the Super League, and even if Thun win, they have a lot of work to do before they get themselves back into the title race.

Basel took the lead against Young Boys in the sixteenth minute through top scorer Ajeti, and the visitors couldn’t muster a response during the first forty-five and went in at the break a goal down. Young Boys came out in the second half determined to control the game and take all three points, which they did, and got back onto level terms in the seventieth minute through Mohamed Aly Camara. Nine minutes later Sulejmani put the visitors 2-1 in front, and in the final minute, despite seeing full back Mbabu sent-off, Fassnacht wrapped up all three points with Young Boys third goal.

Hoarau has scored ten league goals for Young Boys this season, but wasn’t missed last weekend and the hosts will be hoping for a repeat performance if the veteran Frenchman doesn’t return from injury in time to play. Fassnacht and Nsamé have both scored seven league goals for the hosts this season, while Sulejmani has six, and Assalé has chipped in with five, so there are plenty of options if Hoarau fails to return this weekend. With eleven Super League goals this season, Sorgić is the danger man for Thun and will cause the Young Boys defence plenty of issues on Saturday.

A tight and tense first half at the Stockhorn Arena saw Thun and St. Gallen head in at the break goalless, despite the visitors being awarded a penalty, which Sierro missed. Just ten minutes into the second half Thun went in front through Spielmann, and from that point on the hosts looked certain to win. A seventy-first minute goal from Karlen confirmed all three points for Thun, leaving St. Gallen to wonder what might have been if they had converted that first half penalty.

Both teams head into Saturday’s game in decent form with Young Boys winning four and losing two of their last six matches, and Thun picking up three wins, drawing one, and losing two during that same period. Both team know how to score goals and it’s only Young Boys who have failed to score in one of their last six matches, but it was away in the Champions League against Manchester United.

We’re confident that Young Boys will win and that both teams will score on Saturday, and have backed the final scoreline to read 4-2. Young Boys have won two of their last three matches against Thun and the last four matches between the two clubs have all seen both teams score. Young Boys have won four of their last six in all competitions, and both teams have scored in three of the hosts last five matches. Five of Thun’s last six matches have also seen both teams score, and that’s why we believe both teams will get on the scoreboard in Saturday’s Super League clash.
