Portugal Open Predictions

Royal Obidos Golf Course
Thursday 17th September 2020 to Sunday 20th September 2020

After three years at the Morgado Golf and Country Club, the Open de Portugal moves to a brand-new home this week at the Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort in Vau Óbidos – a venue designed by Seve Ballasteros.

Royal Óbidos is a par 72 but not in the usual style as it has five par threes and five par fives.

Julian Suri to Win

Julian Suri used the Portugal Open to kickstart his career in 2017, closing with a 65 to finish runner-up when ranked outside the world’s top 1,000, and his fondness for the event could spark another return to form this week.

After that 2017 fillip, Suri made his Challenge Tour breakthrough in the Czech Challenge a fortnight later, then he became a European Tour champion with a four-shot triumph in the Made In Denmark the following August.

This week’s venue, a long, rain-softened layout with five par-fives, seems ideal for Suri to make merry, and four solid rounds in the Portugal Masters last week bodes well for another decent showing in the same country.

Pep Angles to Win

Suri looks the best value in the field, especially given he has got a potentially advantageous set of tee-times, while Pep Angles could be another big-hitter to follow. Angles seems set to get relatively calm conditions over the first two days to show off his awesome power.
