Julian Suri used the Portugal Open to kickstart his career in 2017, closing with a 65 to finish runner-up when ranked outside the world’s top 1,000, and his fondness for the event could spark another return to form this week.
After that 2017 fillip, Suri made his Challenge Tour breakthrough in the Czech Challenge a fortnight later, then he became a European Tour champion with a four-shot triumph in the Made In Denmark the following August.
This week’s venue, a long, rain-softened layout with five par-fives, seems ideal for Suri to make merry, and four solid rounds in the Portugal Masters last week bodes well for another decent showing in the same country.
