Reason for Green Bay Packers vs Minnesota Vikings Betting tips

The Sunday slate of Week 2 starts off with a great NFC North divisional matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers. Both teams picked up wins last week because of stout defensive performances. Will that defensive dominance continue into this contest?

The visiting Vikings come into this one flying high after a 28-12 dominating win over the Falcons. Minnesota ran the ball an astounding 38 times, with star running back Dalvin Cook accounting for 111 yards and two touchdowns. QB Kirk Cousins didn’t light up the stat sheet but was incredibly efficient and smart when dealing with pressure. The defense was just as dominant as the running game, as they forced three turnovers and didn’t give up a single point until the fourth quarter.

Green Bay had an equally impressive defensive performance against the Bears, who they held to just 3 points, but their offense was far less impressive. It seems like its going to take some more time for QB Aaron Rodgers to adjust to head coach Matt LaFleur’s system, as seen by the Packers offense looking out of sync for most of the night and not converting much on third down. But the defense was extraordinary at creating pressure with their newly formed pass rush, and the freshly signed OLB Preston Smith impressed right away with 1.5 sacks.

With all things considered, we think all of the signs point for this game to stay under the total. Both sides are coming in with run-oriented offenses and stout defenses, so we don’t expect much explosiveness from either side when they have the ball. The Vikings will again commit to the running game and this will keep the clock moving, and the Packers have shown some early struggles in trying to adjust to their new system. To work into a new offensive scheme takes a couple of weeks, so we aren’t expecting any drastic improvement from the Packers’ offense especially since they have to go up against the tough Vikings’ defense. All in all, the combination of run-oriented offenses, struggling passing games, and stout defenses (especially in coverage) is a recipe of success for this game to go under.

In terms of a winner, we like the Vikings getting points here on the road. Their offense has a more consistent running game and Cousins looked great dealing with pressure this past weekend. The Packers’ offense looks a little out of tune right now and we think the Vikings’ defense will be able to take advantage of this and keep them in the game. In a low scoring game, we like to side with the Vikings getting a field goal.
