      Alloa Athletic vs Rangers Predictions

Alloa Athletic managed to secure 7 vital points in the last 4 matches of last season’s Scottish Championship to save themselves from automatic relegation.

They couldn’t make it out of 9th place though, so had to endure a tense 2 legged affair against Brechin City. They came out 2-1 victors on aggregate, but will be hoping they can put themselves in a good position to avoid the same fate this season.

They didn’t get their campaign off to a particularly strong start though, losing 3-1 away from home against Queen of the South last weekend.

Before this, they had suffered an early exit from the Scottish League Cup at the hands of Berwick Rangers when they beat them 3-2 after extra time.

I can’t see them being overly optimistic about their chances on Sunday either as title hopefuls Rangers have a much stronger squad than the home side.

Rangers also come into this match with form on their side, despite the early stages of the season. They have already played 3 competitive games, beating Hibernian 6-2 in the Challenge Cup, then dispatching of Peterhead in the Scottish League Cup before finally kicking off their league campaign with a 3-1 win over the recently relegated St Mirren.

This all makes for a very good start to the season for the Glaswegian giants, beating their main title rivals in an early season encounter and taking down a team that were in the Scottish Premiership last term.

However, they will have to be wary of Alloa Athletic, as they don’t exactly have the best record against them despite the fairly large gulf in class.

Rangers have won only 1 of the last 4 meetings between the sides, with Alloa equalling the win tally and the other 2 matches being draws. But Rangers’ sole win did come away from home.

Despite this record, I think Rangers’ form will carry them through fairly easily on Sunday, and the shocking defending by Alloa Athletic recently makes me think that there should be a fair few goals.

There is a limited amount of markets available for this match, but I think odds of 1/2 for Over 2.5 Match Goals still offers some value considering the goalscoring form of Rangers.
