Mohamed Salah Top Goalscorer
Premier League 2022/23
Reason for tip

Mohamed Salah has been an absolute revelation for Liverpool since joining in 2017/18, scoring 118 Premier League goals in just 180 appearances. He is showing no signs of slowing down, either, notching 23 times last season for his second-best goalscoring season in the top flight. That was his third Golden Boot award in five seasons, with only Thierry Henry winning the award more times than him.

Teemu Pukki Top Goalscorer
Championship 2022/23
Reason for tip

Teemu Pukki won the golden boot in the Championship in 2018/19 and he racked up another 26 goals the last time Norwich were at this level in 20/21, leading them to the title once again. Pukki was squeezed out in a competitive field that year, with the top four scorers from that season all plying their trade in the top flight this season bar Pukki. The Finn has been an incredible consistent scorer over the years for Norwich. He’s hit 29 and 26 in two Championship campaigns and 11 in both Premier League seasons.

Matt Taylor Top Goalscorer
League One 2022/23
Reason for tip

Oxford’s goal poaching frontman Matt Taylor hit 20 of their 82 league goals last term, propelling his side to the brink of glory. Only six League One players contributed a higher portion of their 2021/22 team goals than Taylor’s 24% and a similar reliance on his efforts in another promotion push could see him at the top end of the scoring charts yet again.

Omar Bogle Top Goalscorer
League Two 2022/23
Reason for tip

The last time Omar Bogle was at this level for a full season he hit 19 goals in 27 games for Grimsby in 2016/17. Newport create plenty of chances and Dom Telford, now with Crawley, topped the scoring charts last season. County’s new boy Bogle will be the focal point in their attack next term and he looks a huge price to finish as League Two’s leading marksman.

Norwich to win
Championship 2022/23 Outright
Reason for tip

Norwich may not quite cut it at the highest level, but they proved in 20/21 that they’re too strong for the Championship. Most of that squad remains and they have last season’s TV riches and their parachute payment to fund extra signings ahead of the new season too.

Bolton Wanderers to win
League One 2022/23 Outright
Reason for tip

Only two sides picked up more points than Bolton in the final 20 rounds (W12, D5, L3) of last season, a run which saw the Wanderers rise from the lowly depths of 18th to an eventual ninth placed finish. Manager Ian Evatt has done a good job of keeping his squad together over the summer and they should be able to mount a title bid.

Mansfield to win
League Two 2022/23 Outright
Reason for tip

Mansfield finished seventh in the standings last season but they were still only eight points behind champions Forest Green. The Stags have largely managed to keep their squad intact and the captures of midfielder Hiram Boateng and veteran keeper Scott Flinders from MK Dons and Cheltenham respectively look shrewd additions.

Bournemouth, Fulham & Everton to be Relegated
Premier League 2022/23
Reason for tip

Bournemouth dropped off in the second half of last season and had just the sixth-best record in the Championship in 2022. They haven’t made any significant moves in the transfer market and are heavily reliant on Dominic Solanke, who either scored or assisted 48% of their goals last season.

Fulham are similarly reliant on Aleksandar Mitrovic after his record-breaking season but the Serbian has never managed to hit those heights in the top flight. They have also lost Fabio Carvalho, who scored ten and assisted eight, and each of their last two Premier League stints have lasted just a single season.

Everton had the joint-third worst record in the Premier League since Frank Lampard took over and they have lost star-player Richarlison this summer. They don’t look interested in reinvesting that money after recent years of frivolous spending and they took just five points from the ten games in which Richarlison didn’t start last season.

Inter Milan to Win
Italy Serie A 2022/23
Reason for tip

Inter Milan finished just two points off top spot last season, despite losing Romelu Lukaku, Achraf Hakimi and Antonio Conte the summer before.

Simone Inzaghi proved he was ready for the step up in his first year in charge, winning the Italian Cup alongside their strong title defence. Now Lukaku is back, plus they’ve added Andre Onana from Ajax, which should take the Nerazzurri beyond AC Milan and keep them clear of Juventus.

Real Madrid to Win
Spain La Liga 2022/23
Reason for tip

It is hard to look beyond Los Blancos after their claimed their 35th La Liga title last season, beating arch-rivals Barcelona by 13 points.

Xavi’s arrival in November sparked a resurgence for Barcelona but they still picked up five fewer points than Real Madrid since he took the reins and that was while Real Madrid maintained their successful Champions League campaign.

The Catalan club have strengthened their squad with the likes of Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski but internal politics and cashflow issues make them hard to back, while Real Madrid haven’t sat on their laurels, either, with the arrival of Aurelien Tchouameni and Antonio Rudiger.

Sporting Lisbon to Win
Portugal Primeira Liga 2022/23
Reason for tip

Porto beat Sporting Lisbon to the title by six points last season but have seen their squad decimated in the last six months. They lost Luis Diaz in January and have seen Vitinha and Fabio Vieira, who contributed eight goals and 17 assists between them, depart this summer.

Sporting’s only major loss from last season’s squad is the departure of Pablo Sarabia, but they have brought in plenty of defensive reinforcements and added Barcelona winger Francisco Trincao on loan. Overall, they look to have retained more of their most influential players than Porto so could pip their rivals to the post this season.

Both teams dropped just seven points since January last term so I’m siding with the higher price of Sporting, while Benfica could be a long way back after losing Darwin Nunez.

PSV to Win
Holland Eredivisie 2022/23
Reason for tip

Defending champions Ajax have lost a host of important personnel, with manager Erik ten Hag departing and the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Nicolas Tagliafico, Sebastian Haller and Ryan Gravenberch all heading for the exit door, too.

It will be a season of transition for the Amsterdam club and PSV can take advantage of their largely settled squad. They have lost a few players but Luuk de Jong’s arrival and Ajax’s transition can held them bridge the two-point gap from last season.

Lyon to Win (w/out PSG)
France Ligue 1 2022/23
Reason for tip

PSG may be huge favourites in Ligue 1 but when you take the big-spending champions out of the equation things are a lot more competitive.

Marseille were best of the rest last season but will have a Champions League campaign to focus on, while Monaco will also be distracted by European commitments.

Lyon may have finished a disappointing eighth last term but they were only ten points off Marseille and can focus fully on the league. They have kept the bulk of their squad in tact while adding Alexandre Lacazette and Corentin Tolisso to their ranks, while Nicolas Tagliafico and Johann Lepenant are other eye-catching acquisitions.

Borussia Dortmund to Win (w/out Bayern Munich)
Germany Bundesliga 2022/23
Reason for tip

As always, Bayern Munich are overwhelming favourites and worth swerving in the outright market, but Borussia Dortmund should make another claim to the best of the rest crown.

They have won this market in three of the last four seasons and, while they have lost Erling Haaland, they have brought in some key players with Sebastian Haller, Niklas Sule and the highly-rated Karim Adeyemi all joining the cause.

Edin Terzig knows the club well after 12 years in various roles around Borussia Dortmund and main challengers RB Leipzig have lost a host of talent this summer.

Liverpool to Win
Premier League 2022/23
Reason for tip

The last four seasons have seen Manchester City and Liverpool relentlessly pursue perfection and just one point separates the two clubs over this 152-match period.

With this in mind, it is hard to get behind Manchester City at odds-on, especially when they will need to make some drastic changes to their playing style to accommodate Erling Haaland. The Norwegian’s arrival will undoubtedly prove fruitful in the long term, but there is every chance of a slow start and that could be fatal when every point counts.

Liverpool lost the title by just one point last term despite losing Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for a month to their national sides. This season, Salah and Luis Diaz will enjoy a month of rest during the World Cup and that could make all the difference.

1st: Liverpool, 2nd: Man City, 3rd: Spurs
Premier League 2022/23
Reason for tip

Manchester City and Liverpool have been almost inseparable over the last four seasons, with just one point between them across the last 152 Premier League games.

The reigning champions will have to alter their style of play to accommodate Erling Haaland and Liverpool have the added bonus of giving Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz a mid-season rest thanks to their respective national teams failing to qualify for the World Cup.

Another incredibly close battle for the title is expected but I fancy Liverpool to pip their new-age rivals.

Tottenham could be some way off in third but I give them the advantage over Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Spurs earned 56 points in Antonio Conte’s 28 games in charge last season, with only Man City and Liverpool collecting more. They have strengthened in Richarlison and Yves Bissouma and Conte has averaged 2.2 points-per-game across almost 300 Premier League and Serie A games.

Crystal Palace have lost just one of their last nine home games and held Liverpool to a draw at Anfield last weekend. Villa were poor in a season-opening 2-0 loss at Bournemouth and have four defeats in their last six trips, so a win for the Eagles looks likely in this Premier League clash.

Derby to Win
at Fleetwood Town
Reason for tip

Derby have taken seven points from their four League One matches this season and are unbeaten in their last three in all competitions, whilst Fleetwood have won one of their last 11 League One matches.

Sheffield United to Win
vs Blackburn Rovers
Reason for tip
View Full Preview

Sheffield United have picked up seven points from the last nine available and are yet to fall behind in a home league game this season. The Blades have won five of the last six home encounters with Blackburn in all competitions and can continue that dominance by seeing off Rovers on Saturday.

Wrexham to Win
vs Maidstone United
Reason for tip

Wrexham have endured a frustrating start to the season with just four points to show from three games but they did win their only home game so far.  Wrexham are unbeaten in 90 minutes in their last 15 competitive home games, winning 13, and should be too strong for visitors Maidstone.

Genk to Win
vs Cercle Brugge
Reason for tip

Genk have won their last three games in a row after losing their season opener, scoring 11 goals in the process.  Cercle Brugge have lost two of their last four games and have scored just one goal during that run, and they look set for another defeat on Saturday.

Udinese to Win
vs Salernitana
Reason for tip
View Full Preview

Salernitana have gone five competitive matches without a victory, losing each of their last three, and were hammered 4-0 by Udinese in May. The hosts, meanwhile, have won three home matches in a row, including friendlies.

Real Betis to Win
at Mallorca
Reason for tip

Betis had the third best away record in La Liga last season as they won nine of their 19 trips, losing just four.  Betis kicked off the new season with a 3-0 win over Elche and can see off a Mallorca outfit who lost four of their final seven home games last season and drew a blank in a 0-0 draw at Bilbao in their season opener.

Granada to Win
vs Racing Santander
Reason for tip

Granada kicked off their bid to secure an immediate return to the top flight in Spain with a 2-0 win at Ibiza.  The hosts should have too much for promoted Racing Santander, who lost 2-0 at home to fellow promoted outfit Villarreal B in their own curtain raiser.

Leeds lost all 12 of their clashes with the Big Six last term and they conceded over half of their total goals against in those defeats. Chelsea looked improved going forward against Tottenham in their last game so back them to secure a comfortable win.

City won by two clear goals in 19 of their 29 Premier League wins last season, blowing away Newcastle in both clashes. They won 9-0 across the two league meetings, with the Magpies losing all eight encounters with the top four.

Liverpool to Win
at Manchester United
Reason for tip

Manchester United have won just one of their last 12 Premier League games against Liverpool and they’ve made a dire start to the season. After four straight league defeats, expect the Red Devils to be blown away by the visitors.

Exeter won 7-0 at Cheltenham in the EFL Cup earlier this season and have made a strong start to the campaign in League One, with eight points from four games so far.  The Grecians have scored seven goals and conceded just one in two home games and can win with room to spare against a Robins outfit who are yet to score on their travels.

Mansfield have had a mixed start to the season but they have won both of their home league games, including a 5-2 win over Wimbledon last time out.  Stockport have three defeats in four League Two games so far and look set for another defeat.

Portsmouth to Win
vs Bristol Rovers
Reason for tip

Portsmouth have drawn first blood in nine of the last ten meetings with Bristol Rovers. The hosts are unbeaten across their last five matches and have won their last three. The visitors have failed to keep a clean sheet in 11 successive matches against Portsmouth and have lost their last two away games.

Over 2.5 Match Goals
Reading vs Middlesbrough
Reason for tip

At least three goals have been scored in eight of Reading’s last 11 home Championship matches and also in eight of Middlesbrough’s last 12 away league contests. The Royals have scored multiple goals in four of their last six at home while Boro have conceded two or more in their last three road trips so over 2.5 goals appeals.

Both Teams To Score
Fulham vs Brentford
Reason for tip
View Full Preview

The Cottagers have only failed to score in one of their last 12 home games and they drew that blank against a Nottingham Forest side pushing for promotion when they themselves had already booked their place in the Premier League. Brentford have scored six goals in just two games so far, while both teams to score has been a winning bet in seven of their last eight league trips and they haven’t managed a clean sheet on the road since September so we’re expecting both teams to make a breakthrough.

Leicester City Over 1.5 Team Goals
vs Southampton
Reason for tip

Leicester have scored twice in both games this season and they averaged over two goals per home match last season. The Saints have conceded at least twice in their last eight league games and they’ve shipped two or more in 21 of their last 25 away trips.

Arsenal have won both of their league games so far by two-goal margins and can continue that run at Bournemouth. at Everton

Alex W – Everton have inspired little confidence so far and have the worst xGA and fourth-worst xG in the league. They have won just six league games in 2022 and face a buoyant Nottingham Forest side that fully deserved their win last weekend.

Exeter City to Win and Over 2.5 Match Goals

Alex H – Exeter have already thrashed Cheltenham 7-0 this season in the EFL Cup and can get another big win. The visitors have lost six so far this season and scored just two goals across that sequence, while Exeter beat Wycombe 3-1 on Tuesday.

Amadou Onana To Score Anytime

Amadou Onana may have made his name as a defensive midfielder but he added energy and threat against Villa on Saturday. Following that debut, he’s a big price to score this weekend.

Brentford midfielder Josh Dasilva looks a good contender for an anytime goal when the Bees make the short trip to Fulham. The 23-year-old has scored in each of Brentford’s games so far and could be set for a big season after an injury-hit campaign last time out.

Crystal Palace 2-0
Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa
Reason for tip
View Full Preview

When Palace win at home, they usually manage to keep their opponents at bay and each of their last four home victories have been accompanied by clean sheets. Indeed, they showed real defensive resolve to hold out against Liverpool last week and limit them to just one goal, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them record a shut-out against Villa on Saturday. With that in mind, a 2-0 home win looks a reasonable option for our correct score bet as Villa have conceded at least twice in four of their last six away from home and exactly twice in three of those.

Draw 2-2
Fulham vs Brentford
Reason for tip
View Full Preview

Brentford should be full of confidence after picking up four points from two games so far, and an entertaining 2-2 draw appeals in the correct score market. Both of these sides have already been involved in a 2-2 draw this term, while Fulham averaged exactly two goals per-game at home in the Championship last season and the Bees have scored at least twice in five of their last seven competitive away games.

Bournemouth vs Arsenal Bet Builder Tip

Arsenal to win

Reason for tip
View Full Preview

Arsenal have won both of their league games so far by two-goal margins and can continue that run at Bournemouth.  The Cherries lost 4-0 at Manchester City last time out and are likely to continue to struggle against the Premier League’s top sides, so a win for the visitors stands out.

Over 3.5 goals

Reason for tip
View Full Preview

Arsenal have scored six goals in their two games so far and managed four against Leicester last time out.  However, they also conceded twice and Bournemouth may be able to add to the goals tally as they have only failed to score in one of their last 11 at home.  As such, we may see a high-scoring affair on the south coast and over 3.5 goals appeals.

Gabriel Jesus to score anytime

Reason for tip
View Full Preview

After a lacklustre performance in Arsenal’s season opener, Gabriel Jesus showed his quality with two goals and two assists as the Gunners overcame Leicester 4-2 last time out. The Brazilian should be full of confidence after that exceptional display and he looks a strong candidate for a goal.

Oleksandr Zinchenko anytime assist

Reason for tip

Arsenal summer signing Oleksandr Zinchenko recorded an assist in the season opening win over Crystal Palace and can provide for a team-mate at Bournemouth.  The Ukrainian managed four assists in 15 games for Man City last season and has a pass success rate of 89.4% after two league games.

Over 2.5 Match Goals
AFC Bournemouth vs Arsenal
Reason for tip
View Full Preview

Arsenal have scored six goals in two games so far and two of their three games way to promoted sides last season produced over 2.5 goals.  Bournemouth shipped four at Manchester City last time out and are likely to concede a couple against another strong attack, but the Cherries may also be able to score themselves in front of their onw fans so we should see over 2.5 goals in this late Premier League kick off.

Over 2.5 Match Goals
Torino vs Lazio
Reason for tip
View Full Preview

Six of Torino’s last eight competitive matches have contained over 2.5 goals, as have eight of the last 10 to feature Lazio. Meanwhile, the Biancocelesti saw a total of 68 goals scored in their 19 away Serie A matches last season.

Over 2.5 Match Goals
Sassuolo vs Lecce
Reason for tip

Sassuolo saw over 2.5 goals scored in 30 of their 38 league matches last term, and each of their last five competitive outings have seen a minimum of three match goals. Alessio Dionisi’s hosts have also conceded three goals in each of their last three competitive games.

Over 2.5 Match Goals
Celta Vigo vs Real Madrid
Reason for tip

Celta Vigo hate playing Real, failing to beat them in 16 league meetings, 14 of which have contained three or more goals.  Over 2.5 goals has been a winning bet in six of Los Blancos’ last 10 competitive away games.

Inter Milan and Both Teams To Score
vs Spezia
Reason for tip

Inter have seen each of their last 10 competitive matches contain over 2.5 goals, winning eight during that run. However, the Nerazzurri have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight competitive games.

Marseille and Both Teams To Score
vs Nantes
Reason for tip

There are usually goals when these two meet as evident by the fact that all of the last seven meetings at this venue have seen both teams score. Both teams have also scored in Marseilles last two games. Marseille have won five of their last six home games in Ligue 1 and should be able to claim all three points but both teams are likely to score.

Real Madrid and Both Teams To Score
at Celta Vigo
Reason for tip

Real Madrid have not hit peak form in their opening two games so far, squeezing past Almeria 2-1 in their opening league game. Celta Vigo have conceded at least two goals in their last 16 league fixtures against Real but they have only failed to score in two of their last 14 competitive home games so the hosts should at least be able to grab a consolation effort.
