      Atletico Madrid vs Liverpool Predictions

      • Atletico Madrid are unbeaten in their last 12 games at home in a run stretching back to February (W8, D4).
      • Atleti beat Liverpool the last time these two sides met in Madrid in February 2020.
      • Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has four goals in his last four games for the Spanish champions.

      Liverpool face Madrid test

Liverpool have made a perfect start in the Champions League with two wins from two games ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Atletico Madrid.

Atleti have four points from their first two games, having been held to a 0-0 draw at home by Porto before claiming a 2-1 win at AC Milan.

The Reds thrashed Watford 5-0 at the weekend and were without first choice keeper Alisson and midfielder Fabinho but both are set to return on Tuesday. This will be Los Colchoneros’ first fixture since the international break after their request to postpone their game against Granada, scheduled for Sunday, was granted as they had a number of players on international duty in South America over the international break.

      Atleti boast impressive home record

Atletico Madrid are yet to be beaten at home this season with two wins and three draws in all competitions and haven’t lost at the Wanda Metropolitano since a 1-0 loss to Chelsea in the Champions League in February, a run stretching 12 games (W8, D4).

Liverpool have been in devastating form on their travels with five wins in six away games, with one draw. However, all three of their Premier League away wins have come against teams currently in the bottom five and this trip to Madrid is their toughest away assignment so far this season by some distance.

An Atletico or draw result in the double chance market has some appeal here but at a big price it could be worth going for the straightforward home win here. Atleti have won their last two games against quality opponents having won at AC Milan in the last round of European games before beating Barcelona 2-0 at home before the international break. The extra few days off also works in their favour and they also beat Liverpool the last time these two teams met in the Spanish capital, claiming a 1-0 win in February 2020 before going on to win that two-legged tie.

      Suarez can haunt Reds

Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been in fine form for Atleti with four goals in his last four games for the Spanish champions, including a strike in each of his last two appearances. The forward was also on target during the international break, scoring for Uruguay in a 4-1 defeat against Brazil. An anytime Suarez goal looks the pick in the scorer market here.

A 2-1 win for Atletico is my pick in the correct score market as it is hard to see Liverpool failing to get on the scoresheet as they have scored 22 goals in five away games so far, but Atleti’s fearsome home record indicates they can come out on top regardless and the Spanish side have also scored exactly two goals in six of their 10 matches this term.
