Mainz to capitalise on struggling hosts

Mainz are the bet to defeat out-of-form Augsburg at the WWK Arena on Saturday. The hosts have lost four of their last five Bundesliga home games and have failed to win seven of their last eight on their own ground.

The table shows Augsburg four places above Mainz, but both teams have lost more than they have won. The hosts sit 11th with one win and two defeats, while Mainz are 15th having yet to win in their three games.

Recent results underline the hosts’ struggles. Augsburg could not break their losing habit last time, going down 2-1 to St Pauli last weekend, and backing their opponents during their current run of six defeats in seven Bundesliga games would have resulted in a profit of 6.71 units.

The head-to-head record also favours the visitors. Mainz have only lost one of their last six Bundesliga meetings with Augsburg. By contrast, the hosts are struggling for form, having won just one of their last eight Bundesliga matches and going five games without a win at home. Defensively, they have looked shaky, too, failing to keep a clean sheet in ten of their last 11 Bundesliga games.

With that in mind, Mainz can edge this, with a 1-0 correct score in favour of the visitors looking like a decent bet. Four of Mainz’s last six Bundesliga games have stayed under 2.5 goals, and two of the last three head-to-heads between these sides have seen Mainz win by the odd goal.
