Barca aim to bounce back after European blow

The Barcelona derby arrives at a fascinating moment in the Catalan giants’ campaign – slap bang in between two massive Champions League quarter-final ties against Atletico Madrid.

Hansi Flick’s side are still absorbing the impact of their 2-0 loss in the first leg at Spotify Camp Nou, which has left their European hopes hanging by a thread. Domestically, they remain in control — seven points clear at the top of La Liga and in excellent league form, having beaten Atleti and Villarreal during a six‑match winning streak.

Barca average nearly three goals per game in the league and dominate possession with their trademark control. Even with injuries to Frenkie De Jong, Andreas Christensen and Raphinha,  plus fresh doubts about Pedri’s fitness, they should field a side with enough quality to win well.

Espanyol, meanwhile, have slipped badly since the turn of the year. Winless in 2026, with eight defeats in 13 games, their early‑season push for Europe has evaporated. Yet they still create chances, and their direct style — plus Barcelona’s occasional defensive lapses — suggests they can contribute to an open derby.

Flick’s side are so short in the betting that it is better to look elsewhere for the value, which is probably around both teams to score. Barcelona have only failed to score three times all season, while Espanyol’s need for a statement performance should push them forward.
