Bayern Munich

      Tip Reasoning

Bayern Munich ran away from the chasing pack early on last season, eventually finishing 10 points ahead of 2nd place Wolfsburg after dropping off the boil in the final few weeks.

Despite this overwhelming dominance of their domestic league, Pep Guardiola has put money into significantly strengthening their squad by bringing in Douglas Costa and Arturo Vidal for a combined £47 million.

Of course, the influential and legendary Bastian Schweinsteiger has departed, but their team doesn’t exactly look weak without him.

They have won their last 3 matches, including friendlies against AC Milan and Real Madrid and then a competitive debut in the DFP Pokal against Nottingen on Sunday.

Obviously, if you look at the past meetings between these 2 sides you would expect Bayern Munich to have the better of it.

And you would be right to expect that. Bayern have won 5 of the last 6 games against Hamburger, with the only blip being a goalless draw last September. They more than made up for that with an emphatic 8-0 win on home turf later on in the season.

Hamburger also made their competitive debut in the DFP Pokal, but unlike the hosts they fell to an early exit in a 3-2 loss against Carl Zeiss Jena.

This brought an end to their 3 match winning streak of friendlies, but their pre season displays have shown that they should be optimistic about avoiding the relegation playoffs this season.

It is very unlikely that they will get any form of result against Bayern on Friday though, and the best they can realistically hope for is damage limitation.

5 of the last 6 games between the sides has ended with at least 4 goals being scored, so I think odds of 20/21 for a Bayern Munich Win and Over 3.5 Match Goals are excellent value given the history of the fixture.
