PSG in need of a boost
Wednesday night’s clash in Munich is a rematch of August’s Champions League final. PSG come into this one searching for revenge, but they aren’t in great shape for it after a weekend setback.
The French champions lost 1-0 to Lille in their top-two clash in Ligue 1. Things went better for Bayern, who beat second-placed RB Leipzig to move seven points clear at the top of the Bundesliga. Can the European champions continue a great week with another big win?
Bayern keep rolling
Robert Lewandowski missed what was arguably Bayern’s biggest domestic game of the season but the Bavarians kept their good form rolling. Bayern picked up their seventh consecutive win without the best forward in the world, so they’re no pushovers without him.
Bayern head into this one having won 18 of their last 19 games in the Champions League. That run includes a 7-2 thumping of Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham, so this won’t be a welcome reunion for the new PSG boss. They’ve won every home game in Europe since September 2019, making them worthy favourites.
PSG to fall short
While PSG saw off Barcelona in the last round, the Catalans were a shade of their former selves. The French champions have a hard time stepping up in this competition and we see them falling short in this massive test.
PSG have a manager with a reputation for falling short, while the club have the same previous in big European games. Bayern are the opposite and we expect them to come through this first leg with a victory.
We’re also backing a 2-1 win for Bayern as our correct score prediction. The Bavarians have seen both teams score in six of their last seven matches in this competition – including both legs of their last 16 victory over Lazio.
