Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Both teams have scored in six of Wrexham’s last seven matches. High-scoring games have been the norm for them this season. Birmingham have conceded in four of their last five home games, but can use home advantage to get on the scoresheet against a side that shipped five at home in midweek. Both teams have scored in the last six meetings of the clubs.

Wrexham 2-1

Reason for tip

Wrexham have hit 63 goals this season (1.54 per game) and may just be able to nick this 2-1 with the Blues having not scored muiltiple goals since Norwich eight games ago.
Both sides concede heavily — Birmingham 52, Wrexham 58, so this is unlikely to stay 0-0 for long.

Red Dragons seek response in ‘Hollywood derby’

Wrexham arrive at St Andrew’s on Sunday needing a response after a bruising 5-1 midweek defeat to Southampton knocked them out of the Championship play‑off places. Phil Parkinson has been quick to insist that the setback cannot define their season, and with five games left, the Reds remain firmly in the top-six hunt.

There is less at stake for Birmingham in what they have been calling the ‘Hollywood derby’ after Chris Davies’ men faded from promotion contention earlier this spring. The Blues sit 16th in the table after a run of three consecutive defeats,  but they will be up for the clash against their League One promotion rivals from last season.

Wrexham’s attacking output has rarely been the issue. With 63 goals scored and Josh Windass in excellent form — three goals in his last two games — they carry enough threat to trouble any side. Parkinson wants a return to the “hallmark performances” that have driven the club’s rise, and a reaction is expected.

Goals at both ends in Birmingham

Birmingham, meanwhile, have continued to score at a decent rate, averaging 1.2 goals per game and finding the net in all three recent meetings with the Red Dragons. Their defensive record, like Wrexham’s, remains leaky, and that combination points strongly toward an open contest with goals at both ends.

With both teams needing a lift and both defences vulnerable, this has all the ingredients for a lively encounter. Back both teams to score as the main bet because Wrexham have conceded six goals in their last three away games while Birmingham were beaten 3-1 at home by Middlesbrough in March the last time they entertained a promotion-chasing side.

But the Blues have not scored more than once since a 2-1 win at Norwich in February and they will probably need to double up to take maximum points.
