      Blackburn vs Cardiff Predictions

There have been signs of improvement for Blackburn over the last two seasons after a difficult period at Ewood Park. Last season’s ninth place finish represented a very respectable finish for Gary Bowyer’s side, but financial challenges still appear to loom large and this could be the manager’s toughest season yet.

Nathan Delfouneso’s last gasp equaliser ensured that Rovers at least picked up a point against Huddersfield, but there are early signs that this squad needed rejuvenation and Bowyer has been forced to use free transfers and loans to try and identify a “diamond in the rough”. Delfouneso might be just that player, while the club is hopeful that striker Jordan Rhodes may stay at Blackburn past the transfer window. Bowyer had to sell Rudy Gestede to Aston Villa earlier in the summer.

Cardiff look like a side that will be extremely difficult to play against. Manager Russell Slade sets his side up with a clean sheet in mind and with a tightly-packed, dense midfield, which is extremely difficult to break down.

Including the preseason, the team from the Welsh capital have gone 13 games without losing and they have transformed themselves into one of the better road teams in the English Championship.

It’ll be interesting to see what sort of team Cardiff plays in this game. Noone would seem to be an obvious candidate to get back into the side, while a decent company of attacking players including Barrow, Conway and Pilkington provide Cardiff with plenty of potency moving forward.

The oddsmakers are currently giving Blackburn the shorter odds, but we’ve been impressed by the start made by Cardiff. There’s a feeling that these two sides are trending in opposite directions with Slade starting to build something and Bowyer just hoping to hang on during a turbulent period. It’s also worth noting that Blackburn have struggled in this fixture in recent seasons, they’ve conceded in each of their last seven meetings against Cardiff. They haven’t won this tie since an FA Cup replay in 2004/05, they’ve lost three and drawn two in the last five meetings between these two teams.
