Brentford to Win and Over 1.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Brentford won 10 of 19 home games last term, losing only two and again look solid on their own turf this season. Visitors Bournemouth have lost six of their last seven Premier League games, including their last two and lack belief on the road. There were four goals in the Cherries’ opening away game of the campaign, a 3-1 loss to Liverpool, and goals look likely again here with some 19 of Brentford’s last 21 home games featuring at least two goals.

Brentford 2-0

Reason for tip

Brentford scored 35 times at the Gtech Community Stadium in the Premier League last season, averaging 1.84 goals per game and have hit exactly two in three of their last five on home soil. They can keep a clean sheet against a Bournemouth side that have underperformed their xG in all three games so far and lost 2-0 at the same venue in January.

Brentford vs AFC Bournemouth Predictions

  • Bournemouth have lost six of their last seven Premier League games, including their last two
  • Brentford won 10 and lost only two of their 19 home league games last season
  • 19 of Brentford’s last 21 home games have featured at least two goals.

Brentford’s home form tough for Cherries to unpick

Brentford should record their first home win of the campaign on Saturday when they take on a Bournemouth side that lack belief on the road. The Bees won 10 and lost only two of their 19 home games last term and remain unbeaten at the Gtech Community Stadium after two drawn London derbies this season.

Both results, a 2-2 thriller against Tottenham Hotspur and a 1-1 stalemate with Crystal Palace, were exact replicas of the corresponding games from the 2022-23 campaign and suggest the Bees will do just fine without former top scorer Ivan Toney while he serves a ban.

Brian Mbuemo and Yoann Wissa have been performing well up top and they are now backed up by Kevin Schade, who scored a wonder goal against Palace last weekend.

Bournemouth struggling to shut the back door

Bournemouth have been among the Premier League’s higher spenders this summer, but after taking only one point from their opening three games, it is hard to see what difference that has made.

New boss Andoni Iraola still hasn’t found the right formula yet with the Cherries appearing too easy to break down — as Liverpool demonstrated at Anfield when adding to their lead with ten men.

Bournemouth still appear to lack a cutting edge in attack too with only a handful of struggling clubs (Wolves, Everton, Crystal Palace and Luton) faring worse than the Cherries when comparing their actual goal tally to the expected goals model.

Bees fancied to take the spoils

Brentford will feel they should already have picked up their first home win of the campaign after leading for considerable spells against both Spurs and Palace.

Thomas Frank’s men were under very little pressure on Saturday when goalkeeper Mark Flekken somehow allowed a scrappy effort to go through his legs for the equaliser. Defensively, however, they remain a stable outfit and should have enough of a grip of midfield to see off the visitors.

Only one of Brentford’s ten home wins last term came by the solitary goal, so any Bees victory seems likely to come with multiple strikes in the game, hence the recommendation that Brentford be backed with at least 1.5 goals this weekend.
