Brighton vs Manchester United Predictions
- Brighton have won four of the last five Premier League head-to-heads between these two
- Kaoru Mitoma netted in the Seagulls’ win over Everton last week
- Manchester United conceded 58 goals in 38 league games last season
Albion on the up
Brighton have had a real summer of transition, with Roberto De Zerbi departing to be replaced by Fabian Hurzeler and the departure of club legend Pascal Gross.
However they have spent heavily and there were no signs that the new 31-year-old manager was out of his depth when guiding his team to a 3-0 win away at Everton last weekend.
The Seagulls have added Georginio Rutter, Yankuba Minteh, Mats Wieffer, Brajan Gruda and Ibrahim Osman over the summer, all of which could prove to be shrewd business.
Hurzeler helped St Pauli to promotion to the Bundesliga last term and now will be hoping to have success with this new look Brighton squad.
They face a tough test against Manchester United, although the Red Devils were not particularly impressive against Fulham, giving away plenty of chances on the counter attack that the Cottagers could not convert before substitute Joshua Zirkzee gave them a late winner.
The visitors still clearly have issues in midfield and Brighton have a team that could exploit those problems, particularly on the break.
Home win appeals
Only Sheffield United conceded more shots than Manchester United last season and that leakiness at the back, they allowed 58 goals in 38 games, has not been completely rectified.
Brighton’s pace and power on the counter could expose any weaknesses in the United defences and they demonstrated their abilities with their first goal against Everton, as right-winger Yankuba Minteh assisting left-winger Kaoru Mitoma.
That could be a common combination throughout the season and it was only a concussion that prevented Minteh from a top level debut.
While it is unclear if he will be fit for this game, Mitoma can shine again.
The Japanese star had a difficult campaign last season as he struggled with injury but in 2022/23 he had seven league goals and five assists and with new manager Hurzeler expected to place a high importance on wing play, he could be the key to the Seagulls’ success. Back Mitoma to get on the scoresheet.
Both teams may find net
Side with Brighton, who have won four of the last five Premier League meetings between these two, to enhance their European credentials with a win over Manchester United.
Two of the home team’s last three victories have seen both teams find the net so correct score backers should side with a 2-1 win for Brighton.
