Reason For Bristol City vs Hull City Predictions

  • Bristol City are without a win in nine Championship matches
  • Relegation-threatened Hull have picked up four points from their last three league games
  • Both teams have scored in five of Hull’s last six away games

Robins faltering as the season comes to a close

Bristol City’s playoff hopes have petered out after nine games without victory and that sequence could be extended against a Hull side scrapping for Championship survival.

The Robins have collected just two points in that period and Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Cardiff was their fourth consecutive loss.

That was the final straw for manager Lee Johnson who was sacked in the aftermath and their supporters will be looking for an immediate response against the Tigers.

In normal circumstances, this would be the perfect opportunity for Bristol City to return to winning ways but confidence is low and there is less desire for them to pick up positive results than a Hull side embroiled in a relegation scrap.

However, with their attacking options including Famara Diedhiou, Nakhi Wells and Andreas Weimann it would be somewhat of a surprise if they couldn’t breach the Tigers, who have shipped 72 goals in 41 league matches.

Tigers look up for the fight

Hull resumed their season without victory in 11 games and they were nosediving towards relegation, but their recent performances have shown they are up for the scrap for survival.

The Tigers are only one point clear of the bottom three but a 3-3 draw at Birmingham followed by a 2-1 win at Middlesbrough suggests they aren’t yet a lost cause.

Grant McCann’s side were beaten 4-2 at title chasers West Brom on Sunday but they forced 15 shots at the Hawthorns and they have shown more in the final third in recent weeks thanks largely to Mallik Wilks and Josh Magennis.

With seven goals scored in their last three outings, Hull can cause problems for an out-of-sorts Bristol City but, with no clean sheet in 15, there are problems defensively and the Robins should also make their mark.

Ashton Gate set to host a thriller

Both teams have scored in five of Hull’s last six away games and they could be involved in another thriller at Ashton Gate.

Both teams have also scored in each of Hull’s last three games, with 15 goals netted in total, while the same outcome has happened in five of Bristol City’s last seven encounters.

Hull have scored exactly twice in each of their last two games and given the defensive flaws of both teams, our prediction is a 2-2 draw. Hull have drawn nine of their 41 league games this season, four of which have ended 2-2.
