Cadiz facing a tough assignment

Given they escaped relegated solely by winning on the final day of the 2021/22 season, Cadiz could barely have been handed a harder match-up to get the new campaign underway.

In eight previous meetings between the two sides, The Pirates have lost seven times and drawn just once, a 2-2 stalemate back in 2006.

They had the worst home record in La Liga last year, registering a measly three victories, with Sociedad winning 2-0 here in September.

Sociedad hoping to start well

Real Sociedad meanwhile finished in sixth place last season, qualifying for Europe in the process, helped by a run of just three defeats from their final 11 games.

Imanol Alguacil’s side picked up seven wins on their travels, accumulating 27 points in total, and have made a couple of eye-catching signings during the transfer window, most notably Takefusa Kubo from Real Madrid.

Meanwhile they battered Cadiz towards the end of last season, registering a 3-0 victory in May, with two of those goals coming from the penalty spot.

I expect Real Sociedad to open up the campaign with a win, so an away victory is my initial selection, while 2-1 is my correct score prediction.
