Cagliari vs Fiorentina Predictions
- A win would guarantee Fiorentina European football for next season.
- Cagliari guaranteed survival last time out.
- La Viola won the reverse fixture 3-0.
Europe the goal for Fiorentina
Fiorentina will qualify for the Europa League if they beat Olympiacos in the Europa Conference League final next week, but they can ensure they leave nothing to chance by overcoming Cagliari on Thursday.
La Viola currently hold eighth place and that comes with an ECL spot. A win will secure the spot they currently occupy and they should be able to overcome a Cagliari outfit who are now safe from the drop thanks to last weekend’s win at Sassuolo and their superior head-to-head record with Empoli.
Cagliari largely adopt a defence first approach but the fact they are now safe means they can play with a bit more freedom in their season finale. However, Fiorentina are the team with a target to play for and they should be able to overcome the Sardinians, despite the fact they will have one league game remaining after this one as well as their European final.
Cagliari’s win over Sassuolo ended a five-game winless run and Fiorentina come into the game on the back of a strong performance themselves, having held key rivals Napoli to a 2-2 draw last time out.
Gli Isolani have been in good form at home and they’re unbeaten in six at this venue, winning two of those games, but they were scrapping for survival during that period and may ease up this week. La Viola won the reverse fixture 3-0 and can complete a league double over Cagliari, but the scoreline may not be quite so empathic.
A 2-1 win for the visitors is the correct score prediction as Fiorentina have scored at least two goals in four of their last six games, and exactly two in each of their last two, while Cagliari have scored in nine straight home games and the away side have gone seven games without a clean sheet.
M’Bala Nzola started in attack for Fiorentina against Napoli and managed his second goal in five games since returning from injury. The Angolan should keep his starting spot here and he can add to his haul against Cagliari.
