Cambridge United vs Notts County Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

After a frustrating opening day in which they were held to a goalless draw, Notts County will be determined not to lose too much early ground to those expected to challenge for the title when they make the trip to face a Cambridge United side who were soundly beaten in their first fixture.

The hosts made the trip to Port Vale last weekend but their dreams for a perfect start to the season quickly turned into a nightmare and they ended up on the back of a heavy 3-0 defeat. The hosts will have taken great pleasure in that result as it avenged the 5-0 Cambridge win on the final day of last season.

However, that result was just one of four wins in Cambridge’s final 12 games of the previous campaign and with the side having completed little business to strengthen the squad over the summer, there is little to suggest the U’s will be a threat in League Two this time around.

Things didn’t quite go as poorly for Notts County as they were held to a 0-0 draw with Colchester United in their opening match. Even though Enzio Boldewijn almost opened his account for his new club in the fourth minute, County were pretty evenly matched with their visitors and a share of the spoils was a pretty fair result.

It is a result which Magpies boss Kevin Nolan will be looking to improve on though as he had a busy summer in the transfer market and the owners will be expecting a return on their investment. Nolan’s side will have benefited from being able to gel in their first competitive fixture and should now have a much better understanding of each other.

Given the nature of Cambridge’s opening day defeat and the strength of Notts County’s squad, we think that the visitors should be able to overcome their recent poor form in the head to head between these two sides and we are backing an away win for our tip in this fixture.
