Millwall to Win and Under 3.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Millwall have won five of their last six home league contests while Cardiff have lost five of their last seven away league games. The Bluebirds look badly out of sorts at the moment and have failed to score in three of their last four Championship clashes.

7/5odds when tipped

Millwall 2-0

Reason for tip

Cardiff are having major problems in putting the ball in the back of the net and, although Steve Morison’s side did score in a 2-1 home defeat to Luton on Tuesday, it came from a 25-yard wonder strike and other missed opportunities. All three attackers that Morison started in midweek have failed to score so far this season so it’s no surprise that all of their goals have come from deeper positions this season, three of the four from chances with less than 6% chance of going in. Millwall possess proven marksmen at this level – Tom Bradshaw scored nine goals in 16 starts last season while Benik Afobe managed 12 in his 38 appearances, so they could easily score two goals.

Lions look backable against blunt Bluebirds

Millwall aren’t in great form right now, but one goal could be enough to see off a visiting Cardiff City side that are having major problems in putting the ball in the back of the net. Steve Morison’s side did score in a 2-1 home defeat to Luton on Tuesday, but it came from a 25-yard wonder strike and other missed opportunities still underlined the issues that are yet to be resolved.

All three attackers that Morison started in midweek have failed to score so far this season so it’s no surprise that all of their goals have come from deeper positions this season, three of the four from chances with less than 6% chance of going in.

Millwall were beaten 2-0 at Burnley on Tuesday and the pressure is mounting on Gary Rowett after that made it three straight league defeats. He has been tinkering with his personnel and tactics in a bid to find the right formula, but to no avail so far.

Bradshaw and Afobe offer hope for better fortunes

What we do know about the Lions is that they are strong at the Den and rarely slip up in back-to-back home games, so there’s enough historical encouragement to suggest they are still backable at just better than evens.

A 2-0 Millwall win is the preferred correct score play here because they are creating chances and are not in the same sort of trouble as Cardiff when it comes to lacking proven marksmen at this level. Tom Bradshaw scored nine goals in 16 starts last season while Benik Afobe managed 12 in his 38 appearances.
