Clyde vs Motherwell Predictions
- Clyde scored ten goals while winning their final two games of last season, but still managed only a seventh-place finish in League Two
- Motherwell have conceded in 15 of their last 17 competitive games
- The last time the Steelmen failed to make it out of the League Cup group stage was in the 1983-84 season
Clyde could be outclassed by Motherwell
It was another season of mediocrity for Clyde last term as they finished seventh in Scotland’s fourth tier, crashed out in the group stage of the League Cup and lost their only Scottish Cup match on penalties to Elgin.
They will be hoping for better in the league this time around but it could be deja vu in the cups, especially as they have been drawn into a group with Premiership Motherwell for the second season running.
The Steelmen prevailed 3-1 when the two met last season and the favourites should prove too strong once again.
Steelmen should open with a victory
Motherwell also had little to cheer about in the league last season, eventually finishing eighth, but they did reach the semi-finals of the League Cup and they will be keen to continue their excellent form in the competition on Saturday.
They rarely suffer upsets in this competition, proven by the fact they have made it out the group every year since the 1983-84 campaign, and they can open with a win.
However, their fourth-tier hosts found their shooting boots at the back end of last season, scoring ten goals in their final two matches, and they could net in defeat, facing a not-so-steely Steelmen defence which has managed only two clean sheets in their last 17 competitive matches.
