DC United vs San Jose Earthquakes Predictions
DC United came out on the end of an unexpected defeat in their last MLS fixture, when the out of form New York City overcame them in the Big Apple and beat them 3-1.
This brought an end to DC United’s 3 match winning streak, and was the first time they’ve conceded 3 goals in a single match since a CONCACAF game against Alajuelense back in February.
Despite this, they are still sitting at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference, but their lead has been slashed to 5 points. This may seem fairly comfortable, but 2nd place New York Red Bulls have 3 games in hand over the leaders.
At home, DC United have won 6 of their last 7 league games, and they have picked up 30 points from a possible 39 on home turf this season.
San Jose’s away record has seen them collect an average of a point per match in the MLS this season, so the odds seem to be stacked in the home side’s camp.
But San Jose Earthquakes are coming into this match on the back of a huge 5-0 win away at Sporting Kansas City, making it 2 wins on the trot for them after their 1-0 win over Colorado Rapids.
This is good news for fans of San Jose, as the back to back wins could mark the end of a terrible run of form. Before these wins, they had gone 9 matches without a victory in all competitions, and had lost 8 of those games.
This puts them in 7th place in the MLS Western Conference with a haul of 32 points from their opening 24 games. A win on Sunday could send them up to 6th place, whilst a loss would give Houston Dynamo and Real Salt Lake the opportunity to leapfrog them.
I think it will take a lot for San Jose Earthquakes to overcome DC United at home, so I’m backing a home win at excellent looking odds of 19/20.
