Exeter City vs Yeovil Town Predictions

Big attendances are often the norm on the traditional Boxing Day fixtures, but at St James Park on Wednesday they have the added interest of a west country derby to keep the fans entertained. Exeter City have finally got back to winning ways of late following a slump and they will look to continue their recent improvement when they welcome an out of form Yeovil Town to St James Park.

Exeter City have moved back into the League Two play-off places by picking up back-to-back wins including a 3-2 success at Oldham on Saturday. That result followed on from a 1-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra a week prior and means that the Grecians are finally back on track. The fact that the hosts went from going toe to toe with Lincoln City for top spot to struggling to retain their spot in the play-offs shows just how severe the slump was, but they know that if they are able to have a strong second half to the season then they may finally be able to secure the promotion which has eluded over the last few years.

Yeovil Town remain too close to the relegation zone for comfort despite halting their slide with draws against Cambridge and Northampton. However, even though they were able to stop the rot with those two draws, they lost their four games prior to that and with just three goals scored in those outings, it is easy to see just where their main problems can be found. The visitors can at least take some confidence from the fact that they are undefeated in their previous seven encounters against Exeter.

In spite of the head to head between these two sides, it is clear that the hosts are the side in the ascendancy at the moment and after back to back wins, they are starting to rediscover the form they started to show at the start of the season. Throw in Yeovil’s poor form, and it becomes clear that backing a home win is the only way to go in this fixture.
