Reggae Boys looking to back up strong start
Jamaica overcame Suriname 2-0 in their CONCACAF Gold Cup opener and will be looking to make it two wins from two when they face Guadeloupe on Friday.
Guadeloupe went down 3-1 to Costa Rica in their first outing of the tournament but they can take some credit from their performance. Les Gwada Boys were 2-0 down by the midway point of the first half but pulled a goal back before the break and were only breached once more, despite being reduced to 10-men soon after the restart as Bradford’s Steve Solvet was handed his marching orders.
Jamaica, who have finished as Gold Cup runners-up in 2015 and 2017, represent a step-up in class from Costa Rica and it would be a huge upset if this match produced anything other than a convincing win for the Reggae Boys.
Guadeloupe have been in good form with six straight wins prior to the loss to the Costa Ricans, but the highest ranked team they faced during that run was Bahamas – who are 156 places below the Reggae Boys in Fifa’s world rankings. Jamaica don’t necessarily have a solid defence and they went five games without a clean sheet prior to their success over Suriname so a win with both teams to score looks a intriguing option in this fixture.
With attacking talent like Leon Bailey of Bayer Leverkusen and Watford’s Andre Gray among their ranks we feel Jamaica can pick up a big on Friday and a 4-1 correct score bet appeals.
