      Hamburg vs Stuttgart Predictions

It’s been a start of the season to forget for Hamburg. They opened their competitive campaign with a 3-2 extra time loss in the DFP Pokal against Carl Zeiss Jena, putting them out of the competition in their opening match.

They followed this up with the hardest game of the season, a trip to the Allianz Arena to face Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

It took 27 minutes for Bayern to break through the Hamburg defence, but once they did the floodgates opened. The match ended 5-0, but at least Hamburg got this dreaded fixture out of the way early on.

They can now focus on more winnable games in an attempt to stop themselves having to endure a relegation playoff match as they did last season.

Stuttgart weren’t too far away from occupying that position themselves. They ended the season in 14th position, just 1 point above Hamburg after 24 games.

They, like their opponents, got their Bundesliga campaign off to a losing start. The game was goalless for 75 minutes, but Modeste’s penalty paved the way for a few more goals. Zoller scored just 2 minutes later to make it 2-0 before Hamburg netted a penalty of their own. Osako ended the competition in injury time though, with the game ending 3-1.

Stuttgart had the upper hand in both Bundesliga fixtures between these teams last season, results which proved crucial to the fight against relegation. Stuttgart have won 4 of the last 6 meetings, with Hamburg getting a single win and the remaining game ending a draw.

I fancy Stuttgart to get the better of the home side again, who will be low on confidence after starting the season so poorly. Odds of 8/11 for a Stuttgart Win (Draw No Bet) look like they offer a lot of value as well given the history between the sides.
