Ipswich vs Manchester United Predictions
- Both teams have scored in nine of Ipswich’s 12 competitive games.
- Manchester United have won three of their last four games.
- Bruno Fernandes has five goals in his last five games for club and country.
Tractor Boys still searching for first home win
Ipswich went into the international break off the back of a fantastic win at Tottenham, but things may revert back to the norm when they host a Manchester United side hoping for a new-manager bounce on Sunday.
The Tractor Boys were pre-season favourites for relegation and, while they have impressed at times, the fact that their win over Spurs was their first of the season suggests that the ante-post markets may have been onto something.
They have the second-worst defensive record in the league and have kept just one clean sheet, although they have scored in nine of their 12 competitive games and could trouble the injury hit visiting defence.
Amorim hoping for winning start
The ongoing injury crisis at Old Trafford is one of the first things new manager Ruben Amorim must get his head around, with the likes of Leny Yoro, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, and Tyrell Malacia all sidelined or doubtful.
This selection issue did not stop Ruud van Nistelrooy from leading the Red Devils to three wins and a draw in his brief period in charge, and that high morale is something that Amorim will be hoping to take advantage of.
Fernandes to star at Portman Road
They have scored 11 and conceded three in these five games, so backing both teams to score appeals. I’m also opting for a 2-1 win for the visitors, with Ipswich conceding exactly twice in three of their five home matches and averaging 0.8 goals per game on home soil.
While it’s unclear how Amorim will set his new side up, Bruno Fernandes’ recent form makes him an undroppable asset. He scored in Portugal’s demolition of Ireland last week and now has five goals in his last five outings, so he could get on the scoresheet on Sunday.
