Leeds 3-1 @ 16/1

Reason For Leeds vs Fulham Predictions

  • Leeds beat Fulham 3-0 when the teams last met at Elland Road in June.
  • Fulham shipped three goals against Arsenal in their first Premier League game of the new campaign.
  • Leeds notched three goals in their first Premier League outing at Liverpool.
  • Leeds scored two or more goals in five of their last seven home matches in all competitions.

Leeds take positives from Anfield showing

As far as glorious defeats go, Leeds’ epic 4-3 reverse at Liverpool on the opening weekend of the Premier League season was right up there, and despite finishing on the wrong end of the result at Anfield, United had plenty of positives to take back to Yorkshire.

Marcelo Bielsa’s slick passing unit enjoyed more possession than their title winning hosts on Merseyside, and Leeds’ approach play for their goals indicated that they have the technical quality to mix it with anyone in the top-flight.

A somewhat embarrassing Carabao Cup exit at home to neighbours Hull in mid-week might have dampened spirits a little however, and even though Leeds fielded a completely different XI to the one that played so well against Liverpool, The Whites will want to bounce back against Fulham at Elland Road on Saturday.

Cottagers picked apart

Fulham – who were promoted alongside Leeds from the Championship last year – also suffered an opening weekend defeat in their first game back in the big time, though the manner of the Cottagers’ loss left no room for positive slants.

Arsenal roared to a comfortable 3-0 at Craven Cottage in a one-sided contest where the Gunners might have padded the score further, while Fulham were restricted to just 0.15 xG (expected goals) at the other end – the lowest figure in that metric across the entire opening round of games.

Fulham looked worrying abject against Arsenal, which shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise when you consider that they still have the crux of the squad that failed to avoid the drop in 2019 – and manager Scott Parker will be fearing the worst again ahead of the Cottagers trip to Elland Road on Saturday.

Leeds to find final third joy

Having woven plenty of pretty passing patterns though the intricate play of Jack Harrison, Pablo Hernandez, Mateusz Klich and Kalvin Phillips in particular on Saturday, Leeds will feel they possess the quality to pick holes in what looks a porous Fulham defence this weekend.

United proved that they had the tools to unlock the Cottagers rearguard as recently as June when they beat them 3-0 at Elland Road in a convincing Championship display, and Leeds, who looked such a threat against Liverpool, will expect to enjoy similar success against Scott Parker’s side this weekend.

Fulham’s backline looked all at sea against Arsenal and Leeds showed at Anfield last week that they can carve teams open with their polished possession-based approach.

With their creative powers already looking potent, and the chances of numerous opportunities being fashioned high, the Leeds over 1.5 team goals market looks a hugely attractive proposition at the odds quoted for Saturday’s game, while our correct score prediction backs Leeds to win 3-1.

The Yorkshiremen bagged three goals against Liverpool last weekend, and Leeds have the attacking power to notch three more against a Fulham side that shipped three times against Arsenal and a further tree times on their last visit to Elland Road.

On this occasion however, we think a consolation effort could be on offer for Fulham. With a high defensive line leaving them open to counters, Leeds were left exposed all too often by Liverpool last week, and the Cottagers, who saw talismanic striker Aleksandar Mitrovic net at Ipswich in mid-week on his return to the starting XI, could find room to register.
