Reason For Leicester City vs Burnley Predictions

  • Burnley were undefeated in three of their last five meetings with Leicester.
  • Burnley lost just one of their last eight Premier League matches last term.
  • Leicester won just six of their last 15 home fixtures.
  • Burnley averaged 1.0 goals per away game in 2019/20.

Foxes fly out of the traps

Leicester City put their best foot forward in their opening test of the Premier League season, with a comfortable 3-0 triumph at newly promoted West Brom last weekend.

While the Foxes never looked under threat at the Hawthorns, Brendan Rodgers charges had to wait until the second half for their breakthough, which arrived in the form of a debut headed effort from new signing Timothy Castange.

Last season’s Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy added gloss to the scoreline with two expertly taken late spot kicks, whose opening day success evoked memories of their lightning fast start to the previous campaign.

Burnley itching to get started

Burnley meanwhile, have been waiting patiently for their first top-flight action of the new season, though the Clarets did warm up for their trip to the King Power Stadium with a penalty shootout victory over Sheffield United in mid-week in the Carabao Cup’s only all-Premier League second round fixture.

In their first top tier foray on Sunday, Sean Dyche’s men will be keen to build on their strong end to the 2019/20 season, where Burnley were beaten just twice in their final 16 games en-route to securing a respectable 10th place Premier League finish.

That lengthy string of positive results included a run of just one defeat in eight on the road, with wins at Man Utd, Southampton and a fine draw at Liverpool the pick of their performances away from Turf Moor.

Burnley to avoid defeat?

Burnley have proved tricky opponents for Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester over the past couple of seasons, and the Clarets managed to eke out a 2-1 win against the Foxes in the clubs’ most recent encounter in January.

Overall, in the last five meetings between the teams since April 2018, Burnley and Leicester picked up two wins each, with the spare fixture finishing level, and with the history of keenly contested battles between the sides well established, we think the notoriously tough to topple Clarets can avoid defeat again this weekend.

Burnley’s fine run at the back end of last season coincided with the return of several key first team players from injury, and with personnel issues no longer a major concern, the Clarets will arrive a fit and strong unit in Leicester on Sunday.

City, who finished the 2019/20 season with a sequence of just six wins from 15 competitive games at home, have developed a habit of coming unstuck on their own patch, and Sean Dyche’s wily Clarets team have the streetwise knowhow and muscle to make life difficult for their hosts.

With those factors recognised, backing Burnley double chance is worth considering at the prices available, while our correct score prediction points towards a 1-1 draw.

The Clarets averaged 1.125 goals and conceded just 0.87 times per 90 minutes across their final eight away assignments of the 2019/20 campaign, and having repeatedly shown an ability to  keeping things tight on the road, Burnley can frustrate Leicester to claim a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
