Lithuania vs Malta Predictions
England, despite their problems, are still strongly expected to win this group but 2nd place right now looks more or less up for grabs but Lithuania would still be considered outsiders for it despite a decent opening two results. They drew 2-2 at home to Slovenia in their opening qualifier and backed that up with a good point in Glasgow on Saturday. However, they will no doubt be reflecting on what might have been, given they led both games going into the final couple of minutes. This match should be the easiest of their group games and their most obvious chance to pick up 3 points but they can’t afford to take that for granted.
Malta gave a good account of themselves at Wembley at the weekend, losing only 2-0 to England, although they had goalkeeper Andrew Hogg to thank for keeping the score down. A 5-1 home defeat against Scotland in their opening game highlighted their deficiencies when they try and be a bit more positive though so they are a bit limited on tactical options here and will most likely opt for a similar strategy to the one used on Saturday and play with lots of men behind the ball.
That could be frustrating for Lithuania but they do look to have just about enough quality to find the breakthrough. They scored an excellent team goal on Saturday in Scotland and have a few players who should be able to unlock doors in the Maltese defence.
Malta aren’t a side that scores many goals and fired blanks in 8 of their 10 Euro 2016 qualifiers so they may not get much joy in the final third here. Therefore backing Lithuania to Win to Nil at 21/20 looks a decent punt.
