Luton vs Manchester United Predictions
- United have won five of their six visits to teams in the bottom half
- Erik ten Hag has won each of his last nine meetings with promoted clubs
- Luton have lost seven of their 12 home league games this term
- The Hatters have lost five of six encounters with the top six
Huge game for Luton
This season has felt full of milestones for Luton, but their home game with Manchester United may be their biggest yet. Hosting the Red Devils also comes at a crucial time for the Hatters, who were beaten 3-1 at home by Sheffield United last week.
The hosts are only a point clear of danger heading into the weekend and we’re seeing early signs of the teams above them starting to leave them behind. The Hatters will likely rue that loss to the Blades, who remained bottom even after that victory. Can they quickly turn things around by handing United another disappointing defeat?
Red Devils on a run
Last weekend’s victory at Aston Villa made it five wins in six for Manchester United, who have pushed themselves into the top-four race with a run of three successive league victories. While those results are still largely papering over cracks at Old Trafford, they’re not a side you can write off in a fixture like this.
The visitors have won five of their six visits to sides in the bottom half, while they’ve won eight of 11 meetings with the bottom 10 overall. Their struggles this term have largely come against the better teams in the division, having won 1-0 when these two met at Old Trafford.
United are also looking better of late thanks to Rasmus Hojlund, who has scored in five successive games. He’s also scored in each of his last five league games after breaking his duck against Aston Villa on Boxing Day. The forward is looking much more involved with two assists in that stretch and given his fantastic form, he’s good value to score against Luton.
Luton to fall short
The hosts have lost five of their six encounters with the top six heading into the weekend, with three of those defeats coming at home. The Hatters have lost seven of their 12 home matches this season and it’s hard to see them matching a United side who are coming off the back of one of their biggest wins so far this term.
Erik ten Hag has won all nine of his Premier League games against newly promoted clubs, while as a club the Red Devils have won 11 straight meetings with promoted sides. Given their good record against teams towards the bottom of the table, back United to take the points here.
With Luton seeing both teams score in five of their last six games and given that the Hatters have scored in 11 of their 12 home games, they look good for a goal. United to win and both teams to score is good value, while a 2-1 victory looks like a good correct score option.
