Lyon await tired Lorient
Lyon continued their upturn in form this week when beating Troyes 3-1 and Les Gones stay at home for the visit of Lorient on Saturday.
Les Merlus arrive at the Groupama Stadium one place higher than their hosts after a backs-to-the-wall 1-0 shutout of Nice on Wednesday.
Only three top-flight teams have conceded fewer goals than Christophe Pélissier’s side this season, but they are so defensively-minded that they are among the bottom six for goals scored.
Pélissier deployed five at the back against Nice and his side held on to a lead earned from a superbly-executed set-piece for over an hour – and even when reduced to ten men for the final 20 minutes.
Their energy levels will have been burned out by the effort so we expect the strength of Lorient’s squad to be fully tested by an in-form Lyon outfit.
Having dropped points in two early-season home draws, Les Gones have been irresistible since the arrival of Xerdan Shaqiri and Emerson Palmieri at the end of August.
Although a short price to get the three points, Lyon really should brush aside a tired and defensive Lorient line-up with ease, although we feel there is merit in the both teams to score option too.
The Brittany-based club had scored in nine straight away league games prior to the 0-0 draw on their recent Reims road trip, so we are taking them to register once in a 3-1 reverse that would match the previous two Lyon home scorelines.
