Lorient Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Reason for tip

Despite enjoying a 13-game winning streak earlier in the season, Lyon find themselves on a run of nine matches without a victory and their luckless run may continue on Sunday. Visiting Lorient have lost just two of their last 17 matches and only two of their last ten on the road, so they should be backed to pick up at least a point.

Lorient 1-0

Reason for tip

Lorient are a huge price to win on Sunday, but they beat title-chasing Lens last month should not be dismissed easily. The visitors were 1-0 winners in the reverse fixture and with Lyon failing to find the net in three of their last four matches, a repeat scoreline is not out of the question.

Lyon vs Lorient Predictions

  • After winning 13 games in a row, Lyon have gone nine matches without a victory
  • Lorient have lost just two of their last 17 Ligue 1 games
  • The visitors have been defeated on only two of their last ten away days

Luckless Lyon look set for another disappointment

A 1-0 defeat to Lorient in December proved to be a turning point for Lyon as Paulo Fonseca’s side strung together a stunning 13-match winning streak following that loss. However, they have lost their way since and will be hoping the reverse fixture with the Merlus can again be the springboard for improved form.

Lyon have followed their winning streak with a run of nine games without a victory and a measly expected-goals (xG) figure over 0.74 in last week’s 0-0 draw with Angers did little to suggest they will snap that sequence anytime soon.

Fonseca’s side definitely need to if they are to keep hold of their spot in the top six but Lorient have proved tough to beat for a long while now and could prove to be tricky customers.

Lorient likely to add to hosts’ woes

Olivier Pantaloni’s men have moved into the top half after a run of just two losses in 17 Ligue 1 matches and their ability to up their game for the big sides was on full show last month.

Lorient came out 2-1 victors against title-chasing Lens and also earned a point at third-placed Lille in March, so they will be fearing nothing ahead of a trip to Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

Lyon are far too short given their current form and it would be no surprise to see Lorient take at least a point on Sunday.
