PSG should be too strong for stuttering Marseille

PSG set the bar for Europe in midweek when they started their Champions League title defence with a stunning 4-0 win over Atalanta and the sizzling Parisians could be too hot to handle again when they contest Le Classique against rivals Marseille on Sunday.

Georgian superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was an injury doubt in midweek, however, with the influential winger passed fit, PSG ran riot against Atalanta, peppering the Italians with 12 shots on target and 21 attempts overall in their 4-0 rout.

Fullbacks Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes exploded forward with menace on either flank against La Dea, while midfield metronome Vitinha clocked just under a century of successful passes. All three should be key performers again on Sunday.

Marseille meanwhile, conceded a similar number of shots (26, 13 on target) in their Champions League loss to Real Madrid on Tuesday and could be forgiven for fearing the worst again ahead of their skirmish with their rampant-looking rivals.

Luis Enrique’s side have been the dominant force in recent Le Classique fixtures, winning each of their last five meetings with Marseille while running up an aggregate score of 15-1 along the way.

Marseille have already lost three times in just five matches since the summer, so their confidence is likely to be fragile here, opening the door for PSG to extend their winning run.

Despite winning five games in succession and blowing Atalanta away emphatically, PSG are priced just shy of evens (9/10) to win at the Orange Vélodrome on Sunday, and they can be backed to prevail with confidence.

PSG found the net three times in each of their two Le Classique wins over Marseille last term and they look sharp enough to match that output on Sunday, so a 3-1 correct score prediction is also forecast.
