Rennes can raid the Velodrome

The final round of Ligue 1 fixtures takes place on Sunday and Marseille host Rennes in a crucial clash in terms of the European battle.

Rennes have definitely secured a place in Europe but they could end up in any one of the three competitions. They sit in the Europa League place and a win would potentially see them edge ahead of Lyon or Lille, or both, and into the Champions League spots – but defeat would see them drop into the Conference League place Marseille currently hold.

L’OM have to win to usurp the visitors in fifth but a defeat could see them miss out on Europe altogether if Monaco win at Strasbourg.

Marseille are out of form but their results at the Velodrome haven’t been too bad. However, Rennes are in fine fettle coming into this game and the chance to reach Europe’s top competition should provide enough motivation to win as underdogs on the road.

Franck Haise’s side have five wins in their last six games and have four wins in their last five away from home. Marseille are limping over the line as the season winds down with four defeats in their last seven and they look vulnerable here.

Clean sheets have been an issue for Les Rennais with just one shut-out in their last six games. A 2-1 win for the visitors therefore seems a reasonable correct score prediction as no visiting team has scored more than twice at Marseille in a domestic fixture this season.

Esteban Lepaul is enjoying an exceptional end to the season with eight goals in his last nine games. Lepaul has scored in each of his last four games for Rennes and can make it five in a row at Marseille.
