Rennes can resume excellent run in Ligue 1

Before the latest round of internationals, Rennes became the first team in Ligue 1 to defeat Paris Saint-Germain and that should boost their confidence heading into this week’s clash with Metz.

Rennes defended superbly against PSG last time out, denying their opponents a single shot on target, and they have now won three of their last four matches across all competitions, drawing the other with Bordeaux.

They are well-placed to now push on from the mid-table positions to the European places and can add struggling Metz to their list of scalps.

Hosts Metz recorded their sole win of the season at the end of last month against Brest, winning 2-1, but they still had only 33 per cent possession on that occasion and rarely trouble teams in the final third.

They have, in fact, lost five of their last six assignments in France’s top flight and the best bet in the contest at the Stade Saint-Symphorien is an away victory.

In terms of a correct score prediction, Rennes have only conceded twice in four games and against the shot-shy hosts they could be worth backing to prevail 2-0. Rennes also won the last meeting between these sides by a two-goal margin back in March this year.
