Morecambe vs Cheltenham Predictions

As we enter into the first few rounds of fixtures for the season, there is still a fresh feel to the campaign as fans look forward to what can be achieved for the season, can their sides accomplish all of their goals or will they fall short? This weekend sees two sides go head to head who most do not expect to compete at the top of the division but rather struggle at the other end, as Morecambe welcome Cheltenham Town to the Globe Arena.

One of our picks to suffer relegation this season was Morecambe and with one point coming from their opening two league matches, they are doing little to put that tip to bed. Although they will be disappointed with their opening day defeat to Grimsby Town, truth be told they will be quite pleased to have earned a point against a Mansfield Town side who should be challenging for promotion this season. A further clash with Mansfield in the Carabao Cup followed midweek and although the final result was identical, a penalty shoot-out defeat means that Morecambe have one less competition to worry about.

Making the trip to the Globe Arena is a Cheltenham Town side who will also have reason to be concerned about their start to the campaign. It is early days in the season but defeats to Leyton Orient on the opening day and Bristol Rovers in the cup midweek shows a few signs that perhaps their away form will be a concern this season. However, that is not to rule out the Robins, as when on home soil they dominated Scunthorpe United and recorded a 4-1 victory.

Both of these sides have plenty to play for and whoever comes out on top could say that this three points played a major role come the end of the season. Neither defence looks to be particularly solid in these opening stages of the season and given that five of the last seven meetings between these two clubs has finished with both teams scoring, we think that backing the same to happen again this time around represents the best opportunity for a decent return.
